Hannah murder: Kohli handed over to CBI
Subhrangshu Gupta

Kolkata, July 17
Hannah Fosterís alleged killer Maninderpal Singh Kohli, now in the jail lock-up at Kalimpong, Darjeeling, since his arrest yesterday, has been handed over to the CBI .

The Kalimpong court at its special session today took the decision following a formal request from the CBI in this regard.

The formal handing over, however, to the CBI will take place tomorrow when the CBI will take him to New Delhi for further investigation and making necessary arrangements for his extradition to Southampton, Hampshire.

Kohli will face trial at a Southampton court on the charges of rape and killing of 17-year-old high school girl Hannah on March 14 last year there.

Kohli, who was arrested under the pseudo-name of Dr Mike Davies, had been remanded to jail custody till July 29. But the SDJM , Kalimpong, held a special court today to hear the petitions filed by the CBI and the Punjab police, which prayed separately for handing over the accused to them for investigations into some other cases pending with them against Kohli.

But the Punjab police could not forthwith produce the warrant of arrest against Kohli. The SP, Darjeeling, however, produced a fax message addressed to the court by the CBI asking for the handing over of the accused to them. This was finally granted by the court.

The SP, Mr Rajiv Mishra, said there was no objection from them that the accused Kohli had been handed over to the CBI, which would negotiate with the Interpol and the Hampshire police for his speedy extradition to Britain.
