NAC to prepare policy papers

The first meeting of the National Advisory Council (NAC), set up under the leadership of Congress President Sonia Gandhi to monitor the implementation of the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), today decided to prepare 10 papers on various sectors, including agriculture and employment.

The meeting held at Ms Gandhi's 10 Janpath residence lasted over two hours. It was decided that the next meeting would be held on July 31 to discuss the policy papers, Mr V. Krishnamurthy, NAC member, told presspersons.

The other areas on which policy papers would be prepared are governance, women and child welfare, tribal affairs, science and technology and manufacturing.

Besides classifying the various problem areas, the meeting also discussed the CMP of the Congress-led UPA government. After the meeting, the NAC members were introduced to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his office.
