Suicide attack: 2 militants, 5 CRPF personnel killed

Srinagar, July 28
The suicide attack by militants on a security forces camp last night led to the death of two militants and five personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and injuries to three others in the Dal Lake area here early this morning.

The militants had attacked the 65 Bn CRPF camp housed in Leward hotel in the Dal Lake area at about 8.45 pm last night. The encounter between the militants and the security forces continued till early this morning leading to the death of five CRPF personnel, including an officer, and injuries to three others, including a BSF jawan, a CRPF jawan and a boatman. Two AK rifles, nine magazines and 14 grenades were recovered from the site of encounter, the police here said.

Those killed were identified as Sub Inspector Hari Chand, Head Constable S.P. Sharma, Constable R. Ajay Kumar, R.K. Mishra and Udhay Singh. The injured including Havaldar Bhim Singh of the BSF and Constable Sridharan of the CRPF, who were admitted to the hospital for bullet injuries, were discharged from the hospital today.

Floral wreaths were laid on the bodies of the CRPF personnel by the senior CRPF and police officers. These bodies were later flown to their respective home places. They included Head Constable, S.P. Sharma from Rewari in Haryana.

Elsewhere, at least three militants were killed in separate incidents in the Kashmir valley since yesterday.

The police here said two militants of the Hizb-ul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Pahal Daji, Handwara in Kupwara district of north Kashmir today. One of the militants killed was identified as Farooq Ahmad Bhat, alias Usman. Two AK rifles, six magazines and a UBGL were recovered from the slain militant.

One militant, Shabir Ahmad Shah, was killed and another was injured in an encounter with the security forces in the Tral area of Pulwama district yesterday. The encounter ensued when the militants fired upon a patrol party of the BSF and the police.
