New Delhi, August 7
Within hours of restoration of traffic on Ambala-Chandigarh-Kalka section, Northern Railway was compelled to stop rail service between Ambala and Chandigarh due to sinking of a bridge pillar near Lalru.

The relief for about a thousand passengers who boarded the 2005 Kalka Shatabdi from New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday afternoon and the 2012 Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi from Kalka in the evening was short-lived.

Mr Davinder P.R.S. Sandhu, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northern Railway, told TNS here that the 2005 Kalka-Shatabdi from Delhi was stopped at Ambala on Saturday. He said that the New Delhi bound Shatabdi has been stopped at Lalru. The passengers were ferried to Ambala from where they will continue their journey.

Northern Railway had put Chandigarh back on the railway map after the engineers inspected the Ambala-Chandigarh-Kalka section a little before Saturday afternoon and declared it safe. They lost no time in reinstating Shatabdi Express service between Delhi and Chandigarh and announced running of Kalka Mail from Kalka to Howrah.

Earlier in the day, Northern Railway had announced restoration of the Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express, the New Delhi-Kalka New Delhi Shatabdi Express and Howrah-Kalka-Howrah Mail from Saturday and restoration of The New Delhi-Chandigarh-New Delhi Jan Shatabdi Express on Monday.

The 3152 Jammu Tawi-Sealdah Express leaving Jammu Tawi on Sunday and Monday will run via Ludhiana-Dhuri-Jakhal-Jind-Shakurbasti-Delhi-Meerut-Saharanpur-Moradabad and Lucknow. Beginning Monday, 3151/3152 Jammu Tawi-Sealdah Express will run between Sealdah-Saharanpur only till further notice. The 2903 Mumbai-Amritsar Golden Temple Mail was cancelled between New Delhi and Amritsar on Saturday.
