MEDICAL CAMP: A medical camp under the chairmanship of Dr Shuplaa Sharma was held at Prabhakar Senior Secondary School, Chheharta, for children in the age group (10-14) here on Friday. The Bharat Vikas Parishad, Chhehartta, Amritsar, distributed medicines free of cost.

URGED: The Punjab Human Rights Organisation urged the National Human Rights Commission here on Friday to identify Sikh youths who had disappeared during militancy.

SUICIDE: A woman committed suicide by consuming some poison on the Model Town gurdwara premises here on Friday. She was identified as Parveen, alias Kanta.

SEMINAR ON DRUG ADDICTION: The District Community Police Resource Centre and Amardeep Singh Shergill Memorial College, Mukandpur, 20 km from here, organised a “Nasha Virodhi Lok Chetna Seminar” on the college campus on Thursday. Students, teachers, panchayat members, doctors and chemists of the area participated in the seminar.

SCIENCE AWARENESS: Daizy of Bhagwan Mahavir Public School, Banga, Kamaljit Kaur (Govt Senior Secondary school, Nawanshahr), Baldish Kaur (Baba Gola Govt Girls Senior Secondary School, Banga), Amanpreet Kaur (Govt Senior Secondary School, Nawanshahr), Priyanka, Shikha Chopra (Doaba arya Senior Secondary School, Nawanshahr), Navdeep Kaur( Mahavir Public School, Banga) excelled a seminar held at Banga, on Science awareness on Thursday. Dilpreet Kaur (Govt Girls Senior Secondary school, Balachaur), Manju Kaushal, Gurpreet Kaur, Ram Rattan Kumar (Saraswati Public School, Balachaur), Alka Rani (Govt High School, Mehndipur), Sanjiv Kumar (Govt Senior secondary school, Bhaddi) and Amandip Kumari (Govt Senior Secondary School, Rattewal) were winner at the Balachaur seminar. Mr.Balihar Singh Bains, District Science Supervisor, distributed prizes.

SHO: Inspector Balwinder Singh took over as the SHO here on Friday while Sub-Inspector Sarbjeet Singh has been transferred to CIA, Khanna.

TRANSFERRED: Mr Surinder Singh Chana, Tehsildar, Samrala, was transferred to Khamanon on Saturday. Ms Balraj Kaur from Khamanon will take over in his place on Monday.

DEATH ANNIVERSARY: The 47th death anniversary of Sant Piara Singh of Jhar Sahib was observed at Gurdwara Jhar Sahib on Saturday. A gathering on the occasion was addressed by SGPC member Kirpal Singh Kheernia.

BODY FOUND: A teenaged girl was found dead at Palasaur village here on Thursday from the house of Joginder Singh, a rickshaw-puller under mysterious circumstances. The police has registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC.

HEROIN SEIZED: The police seized 30 gm of heroin from three persons at three naka points. Cases under the NDPS Act have been registered. The suspects have been identified as Harnam Singh of Jodh Singhwala village , Tarsem Singh of Pahuwind village and Manjit Singh of Ludhiana.

CAREER COUNSELLING: As many as 125 students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, Chandigarh attended a career counselling session on the Fortis Hospital premises here on Saturday. Its objective was to make students aware of the various career opportunities in the healthcare industry. BLOOD DONATION: A blood donation camp was organised by the State Bank of India, Staff Training Centre, here on Saturday. The camp was inaugurated by Mr Ramesh Sethi, AGM. Probationary officials from the Chandigarh Circle and staff members donated blood. Command Hospital, Chandi Mandir Col J.S. Panaych, officer in charge, Blood Bank, Chandi Mandir, conducted the camp.
