Inter-house quiz contest at KVM

The senior humanities forum of Kundan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School here organised an inter-house quiz contest in the school auditorium on Saturday. Amrita Gakhar quizzed students on a variety of topics. All six houses in the school - Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Raman, Subhash and Tagore - were represented by three participants each. The contest consisted of 11 rounds. Questions were also put to the audience in special rounds.

The Principal Mr S.C. Saxena was the chief guest for the occasion.

The results are as follows: Patel House (Ankit Mahajan, Anubhav Malhotra, Sandeep Lohi) 1, Subhash House (Vivek Immanuel, Yatin Arora, Anish Bhatia) 2, Gandhi house (Jaideep Umraiya, Akanshya Loshali, Rachit Arora) 3.

The creativity of students was tested in the inter-house creative writing contest with a view to hone the writing skills in short story writing in English and Hindi.

Similarly, in an attempt to develop artistic talent among students, the Art Department in the middle section organised an inter-class painting competition in which more than 800 students participated.

Eco-friendly exhibition: An eco-friendly exhibition was held for two days by Navneet News House Ahmedabad in Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, in Model Town here. The speciality of this exhibition was that the paper of the notebooks was made from bagasse and not from trees. The organisers told the students that bagasse was a material which came from sugarcane after crushing it to make sugar, and the left-over pulp was used to make the eco-buddy paper. The students were made aware of the fact that by having trees, they could save their own planet and help to make it more green.

Students celebrate Teej: Teej was celebrated in Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Public High School, Dhuri Line, Millerganj in the city with great fervour. A mehndi competition was organised in which over 100 students participated. In this competition, among seniors Sarbjeet Kaur (10+1), Jaspreet (10th) and Aditi (10th) were adjudged first, second and third, respectively. Amongst juniors Isha (5th), Ishu (4th) and Vishal (4th) claimed the top three slots. Students also participated in jhoola, kikli, giddha and rendering of folk songs. Mr Sham Lal, an educationist from Himachal Pardesh gave away the prizes.

Inter-class chess competition: Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senor Secondary School, Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar held an inter- class chess competition, science exhibition and sale of rakhi here today. "Deep Prajawalan" ceremony was performed by Mr Mitter Sain, President of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Trust and the function was inaugurated by Mr K C Maini, secretary of the BVM trust. 350 students, under the age group 11 to 19, participated in chess competition. Science charts which were made by students were displayed. Rakhis made by students were also displayed and put up for sale.

Ramgarhia Girls School wins: In the fourth Baba Gurmukh Singh Memorial Inter-school Shabad Gayan Competition was held in Guru Nanak Public School in Sarabha Nagar here today. A number of schools from Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar and other parts of the state competed for the top prizes. Both junior the senior teams of the host school participated but did not compete for the prizes. The first prize was won by Ramgarhia Girls Senior Secondary School Millerganj, Ludhiana, while Guru Amar Dass Public School, Jalandhar and Guru Nanak International Public School, Ludhiana were awarded second and third prizes.

All shabads were recited in the same raga as are given in Guru Granth Sahib. The best tabla player award was given to Guru Nanak International Public School, Ludhiana, second prize of Dilruba Player Award went to MGN, Jalandhar, third prize for Tabla Playing was bagged by GGN Public School, Ludhiana.

Besides, two consolation prizes were also given to Ramgarhia Boys S/Sec School, Ludhiana and MGN, Jalandhar.

Winning team: Shabad- Pritpal Prabh Kirpal, Kavan Gun Gani, Raga- Bhairo. Running trophy was won by Guru Nanak International Public School.
