Jalandhar, August 11
On a complaint filed by AIG Varinder Kumar, the Jalandhar police today arrested Dr Amarjit Singh Samra for doctoring a photograph in which the former was shown to be dancing with some girls.

Dr Samra has been arrested under Sections 420, 469 and 501 of the IPC and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act by the division No. 6 police. A case was registered last evening in this regard. He had reportedly tried to evade arrest for 12 hours but finally surrendered at his house in Kartarpur.

The AIG had produced the original photographs and said his face had been superimposed on the torso of another man. He had stated that he possessed the negatives of the original photographs and challenged Dr Samra to produce the negatives of the picture in question. The AIG added that Samra was trying to take revenge for cases registered against the latter by the AIG during his tenure as SSP, Jalandhar.

PTI adds: A police party raided the residence of Dr Samra in the wee hours today, but the CRPF security guards provided to Dr Samra refused to hand him over to the police. Later, after the intervention of senior CRPF officials Dr Samra was finally arrested, police sources said.

In his complaint the AIG had alleged that Dr Samra had organised a press conference in Jalandhar and recently in Chandigarh where he had released a photograph in which he was shown attending a “mujra”. He added that it was a doctored photo.

Dr Samra, who was the complainant as well as the key witness in the famous judge bribery case in which the then District Sessions Judge, Mr R.N. Gupta, was arrested for taking bribe from him, was having CRPF personnel as his security on the court’s instruction. — PTI
