3 wheat varieties released 

Ludhiana, August 12
Punjab Agricultural University has recommended three varieties of wheat-PBW-502, PBW- 509 and TL-2908, developed by the scientists of Plant Breeding Department, for sowing in the state. This decision has been taken in the meeting of Punjab State Seed Approval Committee, held under the Chairmanship of Dr Ajmer Singh, Director of Agriculture, Punjab.

Dr Amrik Singh Sandhu, Director of Extension Education, said triticale TL 2908 had been recommended for timely irrigated conditions. This can be used for poultry as well as animal feed. Its grains are amber, medium hard and bold. It takes 153 days to mature and its average yield is 16.4 q/acre. TNS



Seminar on education in Australia

Ludhiana, August 12
The University of Wollongon (UoW), Australia, and the Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, will shortly have collaborative linkages in the area of exchange of students and faculty and research activities of mutual interest.

During a visit to the GNIMT, Dr Bill Damachis from the faculty of Informatics Engineering of the UoW and his associate Ms Amanda Waren together with Mr Doug Macaualay, vice-president, operation and business development, and Mr J.P. Singh, business partner of PAC Asia Service (counselling head in India), were invited to the GNIMT to present a seminar on “Career and Education Abroad”.

Students of the MCA final and pre-final year and of the BCA final year participated in the seminar.
