MC nod to 3 pc tax on commercial property

The Congress-led Municipal Corporation here today approved a 3 per cent tax on commercial property amidst a walkout by the BJP-SAD-INLD members at the meeting of the House.

Traffic restrictions for I-Day function

The traffic wing of the Chandigarh Police has imposed certain restrictions on the traffic flow and planned diversions from certain roads near the Parade Ground in Sector 17 and near the Punjab Raj Bhavan on August 15.

Three hurt as students clash
Chandigarh, August 13
Three students of DAV College, Sector 10, were reportedly attacked by another group of students of the same college today. It is learnt that Ravi Dhillon, Vinny and eight others assaulted Ramandeep, Vishal and Harpreet of Sector 41, 46 and 26, respectively, outside the college gate.

Car catches fire
Mohali, August 13
A car, running on a gas cylinder, caught fire here today with the driver fleeing after leaving the vehicle. The fire was brought under control by the fire brigade while the police diverted the traffic near the Spice Chowk fearing that the cylinder might burst.

With the death of one more buffalo, the number of heads of cattle that have died after consuming some poisonous substances in the Sukhna choe in Bhabhat village, near here, has gone up to 18, of which eight were milch cattle.

3 theft cases reported in city
Chandigarh, August 13
The city police has registered three cases of theft in various parts of the city, today. Mr Y.S. Khera of Sector 39 filed a complaint that someone has stolen his Maruti car (CH-01-F-7632) from his residence on the intervening night of August 11-12. The police has registered a case of theft under Section 379 of the IPC.

3 declared elected to PU Senate

Three candidates were declared elected to the Panjab University Senate, here today, subject to the approval of the Chancellor of the university. They include Ms Ravinder Kaur, Principal, Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, Dr RP Asija, Principal, D.A.V. College of Education, Abohar, and Dr Satinder Dhillon, Principal of Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36.

CBSE Plus II compartment result today
Chandigarh, August 13
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will declare the result of Plus II compartment examination tomorrow. Over 7,000 children had participated in the examination held in July last.

DAV boys clinch Rock Idols title

Stoned on Salt, the rock band of DAV College, Sector 10, has won the Rock Idols contest held in Leisure Valley yesterday. The runners-up for the contest were Wasted Souls, a band featuring performers from the Chandigarh College of Architecture and PEC.

Malhar Festival music exponents honoured

The three-day Malhar festival concluded at Pracheen Kala Kendra today with the participating music experts receiving honours from the Haryana Governor Dr A.R. Kidwai, who was chief guest for the occasion.

Agra gharana doyen invokes Malhar’s folk origin

In true tradition of the guru-shishya parampara, the Malhar festival concluded with the doyen of Agra gharana Pt Yashpal being called in to have the last word. And as expected, he made a lucid presentation, invoking the folk origin of raag Malhar for the first time in the past three days.
