Hawks Academy beat Gopal Academy 4-2

Chandigarh, August 23
Hawks Academy, Ropar, beat Gopal Academy, Kurali, 4-2 in the first semi-final league match of the third S.N. Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior (under-14) Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today. At the half-time stage the winners led 2-0.

For the winners Balwinder scored two goals, while Gurdish Pal, who converted a penalty corner, and Gagandeep scored one each. For the losers Mukul (penalty corner) and Jaspreet scored one goal each.

In the second semi-final league match, the Chandigarh Hockey Academy overwhelmed Sukhchain Academy, Faridkot, by three goals to nil. The winners scored twice in the first half through Simrandeep, who converted a penalty stroke, and Sandeep Singh. Sandeep Singh completed the tally in the 54th minute by converting a field goal.

On Tuesday, Hawks Academy will take on the Chandigarh Hockey Academy while Sukhchain Academy will play against Gopal Academy.

St Stephen’s girls win championship

St Stephen’s gymnastics girls (under-14) clinched the U.T. Inter-School Gymnastic Championships organised by the U.T. Education Department at Sector 7 Gymnasium Hall. St Stephen’s team comprised Hari Kala, Ritu Manju, Shivani Jyotsi, Vrinda, Shita, Kulraj and Sagrika.

While St Stephen’s School, Sector 45-B, secured 75.20 points to finish first, AKSI Public School with 49.35 points finished second. G.M.S.S. School, Sector 19-C, with 16.85 points took the third spot.

The following are the detailed results:

PU campus win tournament

The Panjab University campus won the Panjab University Inter-College Inter-Zonal Handball Tournament for men here today. The tournament was played on a league basis on Sunday and Monday. SCD Government College, Ludhiana, took the second place while the local SGGS College finished third.

In today’s matches the Panjab University campus beat DAV College 25-22. For the winners Shaminder Singh scored 12 points and Paramvir Singh and Sunil Kumar scores six points each. For the losers Bunty scored 10 points.

The match between SCD College and SGGS College was washed out by rain.

Girls’ football championship begins

Chandigarh, August 23
The Chandigarh Junior Girls Football Championship for the St Stephen’s Trophy started this morning at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45.
In the first match Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sector 26 (‘A’ team) beat St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, (B Team) by 4-0 goals.

The first goal was scored by right striker Divya Sharma in seventh minute with a solo effort. She was followed by teammate Shikha Khanna who scored second goal for her team in the 12th minute on a pass given by right half Himani. She again scored third goal in the 20th minute and after break the fourth goal was scored by left winger Noor in the 30th minute.

In the second match Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, trounced Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, by 10 goals.

The highlight was hat-trick by Jasdeep who scored six goals for her team in the one sided match. The other scorer for the team were Richa Walia (one), Himani (two) and Nidhi Sharma (one).

In the third match St. Stephen’s (A team) beat Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sector 26 (B team) by 5-0. The scorers were Manmeet, Prabhsimran, Sikha, Cherry and Jaspreet Kaur.

In the last match of the day Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 23, beat Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46, by three goals. All the goals were scored by right-striker Pooja in the second half. She became the second player who scored a hat-trick in the tournament.
