Truck operators call off strike

New Delhi, August 27
Transport operators reached an agreement with the government tonight and decided to formally call off their seven-day-old strike tomorrow.

The All-India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) and the Finance Ministry reached an understanding on the imposition of the 10.2 per cent service tax on transport booking agents.

AIMTC president Babasaheb Dhumal told reporters that it was decided to constitute a committee to study the service tax issue. The nine-member committee, having six members from the AIMTC and three from the government, would submit its report within a month. UNI
