Ludhiana, September 12
The induction meeting of Indira Gandhi National Open University was held here today at the IGNOU Special Study Centre. Dr U C Pandey, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Khanna, was the chief guest. Mr Nahar Singh Gill, Mayor, local municipal corporation, Mr Sushil Malhotra, member Sales Tax Advisory Committee, Ludhiana, and Prof Harlal Singh, former Director, Punjab School Education Board, were the guests of honour.
Dr Pandey gave detailed information about the policy and programmes of IGNOU. He said at present instructions at the graduate and post-graduate level courses were already being given throughout India.
Prof Harlal Singh said while perusing the programmes and policies introduced by IGNOU would fulfil the dreams of the framers of the Constitution of India by ensuring development of India as a whole.
Dr Gill praised the achievements of the local IGNOU Special Study Centre and said that the university was immensely useful to those persons who were not able to resume their education due to lack of resources and paucity of time.
Mrs Asha Sharma, coordinator of the local IGNOU Special Study Centre, thanked IGNOU for granting permission to start admissions for MA courses for the 2004-05 session.
Mr Malhotra spoke about education being spread by IGNOU.
Mr Rajinder Sharma, president, Association of the Punjab School Education Board Afilliated Schools, thanked all dignitaries and other speakers.
