A promising gymnast

Vidya, a Class V student of DAV Model School, Sector 15, has a promising career ahead in gymnastics. This could be evident from her achievements in the past one year. Ten-year-old Vidya had taken part in the 49th National School Games organised by the School Games Federation of India held at Kolkata last year. She also represented Chandigarh in the 44th Junior National Gymnastics meet held in Tamil Nadu.

Vidya is a trainee at the DAV Coaching Centre, Sector 10, under SAI coach Rajinder Sharma. Only few days back, Vidya brought laurels to her school when she won rich haul of medals in the 32nd Chandigarh State Gymnastics Championship held at ITBP, Behlana. She was adjudged All-round best gymnast in the rythmic event. She also won second place in the hoop event in the inter school gymnastics meet.

Her coach says, “Vidya has a bright future and she has learnt the fundamentals of the sport at an early age. School principal, Rakesh Sachdeva said Vidya was an asset to their school and wish her more glorious years in gymnastics.

Dhanas school club wins kabaddi title

Chandigarh, September 21
Government Senior Secondary School, Dhanas, beat Government Model High School, Sector 22, 32-23 to win the sub-junior under-14 girls section title on the second day of the Chandigarh State Kabaddi championship held here today at Sports Complex, Sector 42.

The sub-junior boys (under-16) title went in favour of the GSSS Dhanas Club. It beat Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, 42-22. In the junior boys (Under-19) final, Coaching Centre, Sector 42, defeated the GSSS, Dhanas Club 53-23.

The junior girls final will be played tomorrow between the GSSS Dhanas Club and Government High School, Sector 40.

TT tourney

The Chandigarh State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament will be held at the Sector 23 TT hall from October 1 to 3. The three-day meet is being organised by New Public School, Sector 18, and the Rotary Chandigarh Central. The events to be held include cadet boys and girls (under-12), Sub-junior boys and girls (under-14), junior boys and girls (under-17), men and women section. The performance of the players in this meet will be the basis of their selection for the national meet. Entries close at New Public School and the Sector 23 TT hall on September 29.
