Another couple in gotra knot

Bhiwani, December 18
The panchayat of Hadodi village under Badhra subdivision of this district has directed a couple to break up by December 20 following a gotra tussle.

The Maan family, which is being targeted, has sought police security and decided to defy the panchayat decision in the matter.

According to sources, the marriage of Birpal, son of Chander Singh Mann, of Hadodi village took place with the daughter of Chhatar Singh Bhambhu, of Basdi village on December 14.

Some residents of Hadodi village raised objections to the marriage, stating that the bride was the maternal neice of Sheoran gotra. Since Sheoran families lived in Hadodi, the marriage could not be solemnised.

Two days prior to the marriage, the gram panchayat reportedly decided to convene a meeting against the marriage, but it had to be postponed as the father of the bridegroom could not appear before the panchayat.

All 36 castes in the village objected to the marriage. The panchayat members obtained the thumb impression of Chander Singh on the decision. Discarding the decision, Chander Singh performed his son’s marriage on the fixed date. This stunned the village.

A panchayat was convened late night where the speakers said Chander Singh had insulted the panchayat and Sheorans of the village.

The panchayat was presided over by former sarpanch Jawahar Singh, who authorised a 21-member committee to decide in the matter.

After deep thought, the committee recommended social boycott and expulsion of the family of Chander Singh.

It said nobody would be allowed to plough the fields of Chander Singh. Any violator of the decision would invite rigorous punishment.

According to Chander Singh, the several “nieces” of Sheoran gotra have been married in to families of Hadodi village. In a complaint to the police, he alleged that several persons had misbehaved with him.

He said he could not leave the village as he had ancestral land and house there.

He urged the police to provide adequate security to him and his family members.
