Janata Dal (U) leader Nitish Kumar's move to cobble up a majority for a non-RJD government formation in Bihar ran into serious obstacles today as LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan remained firm on his demand of not taking outside or inside support of the BJP. Even the CPI refused to extend support.

Pope John Paul II’s body was put on display before the world today as more than 100,000 persons packed St Peter’s Square for a huge open-air Mass in memory of their “father and shepherd”.
Television images showed the body lying in state for the first time
since the pontiff died yesterday, aged 84.

Soon after his return from a successful visit to Mauritius, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said his government would persuade Pakistan to allow political leaders to board the inaugural journey of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service.
The historic bus service would unite divided families across the border
after more than half a century.

Violent clashes during panchayat poll
Jhajjar, April 3
Large-scale violence was reported in various villages in the district during polling for the panchayat elections today. While three persons, including a polling agent, and two brothers were shot dead in Mandothi village of the district, clashes were witnessed in Naya Gaon and Orangpur villages.
