Kashipur issue: SAD seeks dismissal of govt

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has demanded the dismissal of the Congress government in Uttaranchal for its role in rendering hundreds of innocent Sikhs homeless.

The year–1908. A young couple of Sidhwan Khurd village near Ludhiana saw their world crashing down. Ujagar Singh, their only son, then aged 14, had drowned in the village pond while tending to cattle.

The National Sahit Akademi and the Punjabi Sahit Akademi, Ludhiana, held a two-day multi-language poetic symposium in Punjabi Bhawan on Saturday and Sunday. The symposium was dedicated to noted novelist Amrita Pritam.

Rapist father kills wife, girl

Ludhiana, January 9
A middle-aged woman of Haibowal and her young daughter chose to lose their life instead of succumbing to the dictats of her husband, who was an under-trial in a case of raping the daughter and was pressurising them to withdraw the case. Police sources said today that the accused, Mohinder Singh, had allegedly butchered to death his wife Veena (40) and daughter Geetanjli (20) yesterday in sheer frustration after failing to convince the two women to withdraw the rape case. He had used an axe and kept hitting the two women despite their loud shrieks.

Motorcyclist killed in mishap
Jagraon, January 9
In different accidents, one person was killed and many injured in this city. Mandeep Singh of Kalsian was killed while going on his motor cycle (PB-10BA-6699) in Tajpur village when a scooter (PB-10Q-7842) hit it. The Raikot police has registered a case under Sections 304 A, 279, 427, 337, 338, IPC. No arrest has been made.
