Tribune News Service

Srinagar, January 25

Elsewhere at least six militants were killed in separate incidents of violence in Jammu and Kashmir since yesterday. A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered when the police and security forces busted two hideouts in Rajouri district ahead of the Republic Day celebrations yesterday.

A CRPF Constable, Avtar Singh opened an indiscriminate fire from his automatic weapon inside the camp at Firdous cinema killing four of his colleagues and critically injuring another here this afternoon. This, according to the official sources, followed a tiff between Avtar Singh and one of his colleagues, Mohammad Ashraf, who reportedly had “humiliated” Avtar Singh. “The cause of humiliation” was yet to be ascertained, according to the CRPF officials.

They held that Avtar Singh from Hoshiarpur feeling “humiliated” opened fire at Mohammad Ashraf inside the camp. This led to the instant death of Mohammad Ashraf and three others, while another jawan was critically injured and has been shifted to a hospital here. Avtar Singh, according to the officials, lost mental balance following the incident. What led to the tiff between Avtar Singh and his colleague is yet to be ascertained.
