Republic Day
: Since most of the schools would be closed on Thursday on account of a public holiday, various city schools, including Eklavya School, Seth Hukum Chand S.D. Public Senior Secondary School, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Manav Sehyog School, celebrated the Republic Day on Wednesday. Some of these schools organised competitions, others planted trees and organised cleanliness drives.

Free camp: A free medical check-up camp is being organised at Oxford Hospital, near Nakodar Chowk, from January 26 to 28. Patients would be provided free consultation along with checking of blood pressure, blood sugar, ECG, echo cardiography, X-ray and other blood tests, stated Dr S.P.S. Grover, the managing director of the hospital, in a press release issued here on Wednesday.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Residents Welfare Forum(Category I), Sector 51-A: president- Mrs Manjit Kaur; senior vice president Mr P.R. Kansal; vice president- Mr Narender Singh Pathania; general secretay Mrs Gurpal Anand; joint secretary Mr Jaspal Singh; and treasurer Mr C.B. Goswami.

BHIWANI
Advocate BEATEN UP
: Five persons of Buwani Khera village have been charged with beating up an advocate in his chamber at the judicial complex. Advocate Mahipal stated in his complaint to the police that Sadhu Ram, Puran Singh , Rohtash, Bhim and Subhash entered his chamber and beat him up. The police has registered a case but no arrest has been made so far in this connection.

Flying squads constituted
: The secretary of the Haryana Board of School Education, Mr Rajeev Ranjan, on Tuesday said 457 flying squads had been constituted to keep a check on the use of unfair means and detect the cases of copying during the coming examination of the middle, high and senior secondary classes in the state.

PANIPAT
Meeting held
: A meeting to supervise various development projects  undertaken in the district was held under the chairmanship of Dr Arvind Sharma, local MP, on Tuesday. Dr Sharma  said a project of sanitation funded by the Centre and state governments was going on in full swing. He said the government had identified families belonging to the BPL and would be provided with toilets in association with several NGOs associated with the project.
