Wetlands days
: Mr Charanjit Singh, Gumtala Manch president, while addressing students of Ashoka Senior Secondary School, on World Wetlands Day here on Thursday, said the country had a total of 25 wetlands. Prof Mohan Singh, patron of the manch, cautioned against the reckless pollution at bird sanctuaries like Harike. Mr Y.P. Gupta, Principal, read out the roll of honour of the school.

BATHINDA
CPM protest
: Leaders and activists of the CPM courted arrest in front of the mini secretariat here on Thursday. Mr Harnek Singh of the party said vacant posts in various government departments should be filled and the old age and disabled pension process should be simplified.

Urea crisis: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Rahul Bhandari, on Thursday said the administration was making efforts to deal with the urea crisis in the district. He held a meeting with the Chief Agricultural Officer, Mr P.S. Aulakh, and urea dealers to review the scenario.

Man run over by train: A man was run over by a train on the Bathinda-Abohar track near the thermal plant here. He was taken to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased, who was around 40, has not been identified.

Hakikat Rai remembered
: Martyr Hakikat Rai was remembered at a function held at the smadh of Sati Lakshmi Devi on Thursday. Hakikat Rai was 12 years old when he was killed during the Auranzeb regime for refusing to embrace Islam.

NAWANSHAHR
Water project
: The town has been brought under the extension and augmentation of sewerage and drinking water project, Parliamentary Secretary Parkash Singh has said. the Chief Minister had sanctioned Rs 497.36 lakh and Rs 180 lakh, respectively, for sewerage and drinking water facilities in the town, he added.

PHILLAUR
3 injured in accident
: Three ICICI bank employees sustained serious injuries when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a Lohian-bound train at an unmanned level crossing on the Phillaur-Lohian railway section near the Bilga railway station here on Thursday. Vishal, Iqbal, and Vishesh have been taken to the Dayanand hospital in Ludhiana.
