Harkrishan school holds sports meet

Doraha, February 18
The junior sports day and grandparents meet was organised at Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School here today.

Mr Sukhpal Singh, Chairman, Doraha College of Education, was the chief guest.

The chief guest inaugurated the sports meet in which nearly 200 children participated.

Children presented a cultural programme. Various sports events such as hopping race, backward race, stringing beads, monkey race, clown race, banana race, musical chair, etc were organised for the students of nursery, first and second standards.

Grandparents participated in potato-peeling race and slow-walking race. The winners were given away prizes by the chief guest.



Sri Aurobindo College holds athletics meet

Ludhiana, February 18
The second annual athletics meet of the Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management was held here recently. Students actively participated in various events. The races included the l00-metre race, 200-metre race, 400-metre race, relay race and even some fun races like three-legged race, spoon race, slow cycling etc.

The shot-put throw, javelin throw, hammer throw and discus throw also saw keen participation by students. Col P.S. Choudhry, GM, Administration, was present to motivate the students. Simran Rang from B.Com II year won the 100-metre race and set a new college record. Ravijot Singh won the 200-metre race. He also won the first prize in the long jump and triple jump event. Maninder Singh Gill won the 400-metre race.

One of the most thrilling events of the day was the 4X100-metre relay race, which was won by Ravijot Singh, Simran Rang, Amanjot Singh and Manik Gupta.

Meanwhile, Varun Kaura of B.Com second year, won the shot-put and javelin throw events. The discuss throw was won by Sanyam Bhatia who surprised many contenders, while the hammer throw was won by Paramdeep Singh. The three km cross-country race was won by Kanwaldeep Singh for the second consecutive year. He set a new college record.

In the girls' section, Ishoo Garg won the l00 metre and 200-metre races. Amritpaljeet Kaur trounced all the girls to win the shot-put and discuss throw events by a big margin. Loveleen Malhotra also showed a lot of consistency and won the cross-country race for the second time in successive years.

After the completion of all events, the Principal of the college, Dr Prern Kumar, gave away the prizes to all winners and congratulated all the participants for showing the sportsman spirit and enthusiasm.

The prize for the best athlete was given to Ravijot Singh, while amongst girls Ishoo Garg bagged the Best Athlete award.

The event's success was attributed to the sports in charge of the college, Mr Tejinder Singh, who put in a great effort to train the students and organise the athletic meet.



Expressions 2006 concludes

Expressions 2006 concluded here yesterday. Dr H.S. Singha (Col), Director, GNIMT, welcomed the chief guest. Teams of giddha, bhangra and fashion show gave good performances.

Students of the GNIMT entertained the audience with their comedy. The events marking the talent of students in the field of fine-arts (mehndi, cartooning, poster-making) and literary events (debate, sell-it, debugging) were also conducted simultaneously.

The souvenir of the GNIMT was released and 12 students of the GNIMT were awarded “Achiever Award” for their contribution in organising the mega event.

The results: Giddha-first KIMT, Debate: first PAU, Sell-it: first SGHCMT, De-bugging: first SGHCMT, Mehndi: first DBIMCS, Cartooning: first PCTE, Poster-making: first GNKCW.



1-yr jail term in cheque bounce case

Mr Jaspal Verma, Judicial Magistrate, has convicted Devinder Pal Singh Anand of Jamalpur, Ludhiana, in a cheque bounce case involving Rs 1 lakh. He has been sentenced to undergo imprisonment for one year.
