Monkey brings down Taj vase

Lucknow, May 15
The Taj Mahal that has weathered many a storm over the centuries, however, could not bear some jostling by a monkey who brought down a tiny flower vase carved atop the sandstone turret on the main entrance gate of the monument.

The incident occurred on Sunday when a leap by a monkey literally severed the vase from the steep turret and brought it straight to the ground.

“Fortunately it did not hurt anyone even as the passage below is the routine entrance for thousands of tourists visiting the Taj every day,” said Archaeological Survey of India official B. Vikram.

The restoration work was taken up on a war footing and the vase was restored Monday.

“We have successfully managed to fix the flower vase back after repair,” Vikram told IANS over the telephone from Agra.

“It was not a very big task. We have the expertise to carry out such tasks,” he said. — IANS
