AIFUCTO withdraws stir
: After an assurance from the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, the All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO) has suspended its dharna in front of Parliament, Dr V.K. Tewari, national secretary of the federation, said in a press release on Thursday.

PRT workshop
: A five-day PRT workshop began at Army Public School, Beas, on Wednesday. More than 400 teachers from 170 Army Schools are participating in the workshop. Colonel G.S. Bhullar, Deputy Cdr. 55(1), Mech Bde, inaugurated the first of the series of four workshops planned by the AWES HQ, New Delhi.

Gang busted
: The Phagwara police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three members of a robbers’ gang at Chaheru village and recovered a motorcycle, gold ornaments worth Rs 1 lakh, 20 mobile phones and cash from their possession.

Pulse polio rally: Government Model High School, Sector 29-A, students and teachers organised a pulse polio rally in the city on Wednesday. Dr Sanjay Singla and staff of the ESI dispensary, Sector 29, took part in the rally, which was flagged off by Dr G.P. Singh, SMO, Sector 19. On May 21, polio drops will be administered to children.

JOB PORTAL: Punjab’s first career and job web portal, Punjobs.com, has been launched. According to Mr Gurmeet Singh, CEO, it is a step towards accelerating employment rate in the region. The service will be fee of cost. The portal also offers career advice for job seekers.

Annual Function
: The annual prize distribution function of St Paul’s High School, Ambala City, was held on Thursday. Principal W.V. Charles exhorted students to take part in activity programmes. Merit certificates and prizes were given to students for excellence in academic and co-curricular activities. The best all-round performance award for 2005-06 was given to Harmeet Chawla among juniors and Ashna Jain among seniors. Headmistress A. Williams and senior coordinator D. Mehta coordinated the programme.

HONOURED: Students of class VIII who had excelled in the DAV Education Board exam were honoured at a function held at Police DAV Public School, Ambala City, recently Ambala IG Range S.S. Deswal was the chief guest.
