Major gas reserve found in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, June 7
The Gujarat Government today announced a major gas find in the KG basin, offshore Kakinada district in Andhra Pradesh.
The second well, which has been built by the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) in the KG basin, produces the gas flow of 4.8 million cubic feet per day and oil flow of 862 barrels per day, Gujarat Minister of State for Energy Saurabh Pastel told mediapersons here after a Cabinet meeting.

The well was opened by the corporation on June 2.

It had already made a major gas find in the same block last year with an estimated 20 trillion cubic feet gas reserve. It plans to drill 20 or 30 appraisal wells in the same block in the next 2-3 years.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora have congratulated the Gujarat Government for the gas find, state Chief Minister Narendra modi said. UNI
