Substandard fertilisers
: The fertilisers and other agricultural inputs seized in a large quantity from the godown of a private firm sometime back have been found to be substandard. As per a statement released recently by the Chief Agricultural Officer, Mr P.S. Aulakh, the samples of these fertilisers and pesticides had been sent to a lab for testing. He said legal action would be taken against the firm under the relevant Act.

Protest march
: To protest against the recent price hike of petroleum products, activists ofthe local SAD unit led by their president Surinder Singh Bhulewal Rathan, Mr Sohan Singh Thandal and Mr Des Raj Dhugga, both MLAs, and Ms Mohinder Kaur Josh, former minister, asseembled at the local Gurdwara Singh Sabha and later took out a march to the mini-secretariat.

1 held for cheating: A case of cheating has been registered at the city police station on Wednesday against some travel agents. According to police sources, Harmesh Lal of local Kamalpur area in his complaint alleged that Sunil Ranga of the same area and Manni Dhaliwal of Ferozepore Cantt took Rs 2.5 lakh from him for sending him to France. But instead they sent him to Malaysia, where he was caught by the police and jailed for two months. A case under Sections 420 and 120-B IPC, against both has been registered while Sunil Ranga has been arrested.

One held with pistol:
Ruzak Ali, alias Jake, of Malerkotla was arrested by ASI Naveenpal Singh from Pakhowal village and recovered one pistol, .315 box with 2 cartridges from his possession. A case has been registered under Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act. 

House burgled: Avtar Singh and Balkrishan of Karnail gate, Jagraon, allegedly broke open the lock of the house of Pawan Kumar, a resident of the Kacha Malak road and stole 50 gms of gold and 40 gms of silver ornaments along with Rs 10,000 in cash.

Cash bag snatched: Paramjit Singh of Rajgarh Burj in Bathinda district allegedly snatched a cash bag from Gurdial Singh of Bassian, near Talwandi Gate, Raikot. The cash bag contained Rs 24,470.

Labourer found dead
: A migrant labourer was allegedly found murdered on a tubewell at Jallowal village near Kala Sanghian here on Friday. According to information, Ramu (25) was reportedly found dead when his elder brother reached the spot to serve him tea. The injury marks were found on the head of the deceased. The police has registered a case and started investigations in this connection.

One dies of heatstroke
: An unidentified body of a man, aged about 55, was found near the Gandhi Chowk here this afternoon. His body was taken to the local Civil Hospital, where doctors attending on him declared that he had died of heatstroke.

Proclaimed offender held: The Phagwara police arrested a proclaimed offender and recovered two passports from his possession from near the Chadha Market in Phagwara on Friday. According to Phagwara ASP, a police team, led by Sub-Inspector Inderjit Singh of the Special Staff of the Phagwara police, arrested Surjit Kumar and recovered two passports from his possession. He was holding two passports, one in his own name and the other in the name of Rajinder Kumar by producing fake documents, said the ASP. He had been absconding from his Thakraki village in Banga since 2000 and a case under Sections 420 and 406 was registered at the Banga police station, added the ASP.

3 patwaris suspended
: Three patwaris — Bir Singh of Jharoda in Kosli tehsil, ram Kumar of Basdudha in Rewari tehsil and Babu Lal of Shyamnagar in Kosli — have been suspended by the deputy Commissioner, Mr Mahender Kumar. They have been charge-sheeted as well. The DC said Bir Singh and Ram Kumar had been suspended on the charge of corruption, while Babu Lal had incurred suspension for dereliction of duty.



Foundation stones laid
: Former Health Minister Chandresh Kumari on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the augmentation of the Gaggal water supply scheme in this subdivision. She laid another foundation stone for the augmentation of Chaitru Sakhot water supply scheme, which would be completed within one year. She said the augmentation of Gaggal project was at a cost of Rs 26.26 lakh and Chatru Sakhot at Rs 60 lakh. She added that work on the link road connecting Chatru and Gaggal would start soon after getting the NOCs from the departments concerned and directed the PWD to expedite the work in this regard.

Fancy dress show: A fancy dress show and scholarship award ceremony were held in Rainbow International School, Nagrota Bagwan, near here. Children of nursery and KG took part in the fancy dress show. The programme was presided over by the SDM, Ms M. Sudha, according to Ms Chhavi Kashyap, principal of the school. 

Murder case registered
: After the body of a married woman, Tinkri Devi, was found from near her house at Saroha village in Gohar subdivision, the police has registered a case of murder under Section 302, IPC. A police party has been sent to nab the suspects.
