Chandigarh win by 4 wickets

A superb all-round performance by Vipul Chadha and Rohit Singh was instrumental in a 4-wicket victory by Chandigarh over Panchkula in the cricket match of the Haryana State Inter-District (under 19) league-cum-knockout tournament played on DAV School cricket ground here today.

Panchkula began their second innings with skipper Mandeep Singla and Varun Khanna surpassing the lead of the first inningís 62 runs in the 10th over without losing a wicket, Varun Khanna was clean bowled while Mandeep Singla scored a brisk 40 runs before being caught out. Thereafter, Shankar Nair 37 and Karan Malik 18 did some rescue act. Yashwardhan also contributed valuable 20 not out before the innings folded at 192 all out in 39.1 overs. Vipul Chadha claimed 3 for 45 while Rohit and Amanjeet claimed 2 wickets each.

Requiring 132 to win in stipulated 40 overs of the second innings, Chandigarh Arjun and Amrinder were out when the score was 54 for 4.Thereafter, Rohit Singh (25) and Gagan (23) took the score to 100. Chandigarh completed the required runs in the 34th over of the innings with 4 wickets in hand. Ashutosh Walia for the Panchkula chipped in with 2 for 28.

In the second match of the day, Kurukshetra scored an emphatic win over Ambala by 3 wickets despite trailing in the first innings by 25 runs. Kurukshetra began at 168 for 6 in the first inning, were all out for 187 in 49.5 overs.

Overnight unbeaten batsman Sandeep Attray completed his century and scored a magnificent 104 runs. Harjot Singh claimed 6 wickets for 65.

Ambala in the second innings scored 161 all out in 38.3 overs with the help of well-made 56 from Bhanu Mor. Mohit Dhina contributed 29 runs to the teamís total. Sandeep claimed 6 wickets for 46.

Kurukshetra required 187 runs in 40 overs for an outright victory. Madhav Sharma scored a superb half century. Sandeep 34, Deepak 35 and Sandeep Attray 22 took the team home with 3 wickets in hand and 4 balls to spare.

With todayís Victory Chandigarh and Kurukshetra have colleted 4 points each whereas Panchkula and Ambala did not get any point.



Shilpa emerges tennis winner

Shilpa Naruka gave a straight set defeat to Ravnoor Kaur (6-1,6-1) in the finals of the girls under- 14 category during the Hot Weather Tennis tournament held at CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here today. The duo Lalit Tandon and Tushar Sharma will face the pair of Vijayant Malik and Yogesh Phogat in the menís doubles finals tomorrow.
