Chandigarh, June 25 Giving details about papers II and III of various subjects, Prof Kataria said students appearing for the subject of English found these papers easier as compared to the December-2005 test but management and commerce students found the paper III very lengthy. The UGC conducts the NET for the humanities and social sciences stream twice a year. |

Summer camp for children concludes
Chandigarh, June 25 During the camp the children were made to participate in a series of activities, including pool splash, story reading, dance, art and craft, outdoor visits, magic show and the like. At the grand finale today held at New Public School, Chandigarh, the atmosphere was fun-filled and lively. The parents and grandparents of the children cheered and clapped, while tiny tots danced and swayed to the tune of “It's the time to disco…”. The kids in the age group of 6-12 years performed “Masti Ki Pathshala.” Participation certificates were then given to all kids by Airtel. According to Mr Rajiv Jaitly, CEO (mobility), Bharti Airtel, Punjab Circle, said, “ The camp was an ideal platform for the kids to learn and it was extremely heartening to see them having a great time.” |
Balraj Sahni award for Kanwar Iqbal
Chandigarh, June 25 The award was presented by Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gangu Ram Musafir at a special function organised by Mumbai and Shimla-based All-India Artistes Association at the Kali Bari auditorium, Shimla, yesterday. Musafir lauded the efforts of Kanwar Iqbal for propagating the rich regional folklore in countries like Russia, Uzbekistan, the USA, Canada during his lecture demonstration series and
performances. Credited with musical score of 12 regional films, Doordarshan serials and annual new year eve programmes, Indo-Pak games opening and closing ceremonies, this Indore gharana maestro had worked as music director for Shropshire (UK), Punjab youth music exchange programme in 1999. Bollywood playback singers like Sukhwinder Singh, Jaspinder Narula, Vinod Sehgal, Wadali brothers, Gurdas Mann and others had recorded for various films and albums under his music direction. An award had been also bestowed on a city poet Madhav Kaushik for his literary enterprise and proliferation of literature especially the ghazal. He had authored 14 books and also won the millennium poet award at the world hindi conference, Rajbhasha and Haryana Sahitya Akademy awards for his contribution in literature. |

Chandigarh, June 25 Starting from the first inning’s reply to the overnight score of 106 for 3 against Karnal’s total of 247 all out, Chandigarh’s Arjun slammed the century and ensured vital 22 runs lead in the first innings, along with Amit Sonkar who executed superb drives square of the wicket in his short innings of 29 n.o. Chandigarh sport 269 for 4 in stipulated 60 overs of the first innings. Rohan was the only successfully for visitors having 2 wickets for 47 runs. Karnal started their second inning with a deficit of 22 runs. Rohan 38 and Sumit Kundu 41 took the score to respectability after they were in a trouble with 3 wickets down for just 15 runs at the end of the fifth over. Visitors scored 165 for 8 in 40 overs. National badminton from November 22
Panchkula, June 25 This was disclosed by Devender Singh, president of the Haryana Badminton Association (HBA) at the annual general body meeting of the HBA held in Sector 5, here today. It was anticipated that the total expenditure involved in holding this tournament would be more than Rs 25 lakh. It was also announced that the Haryana State Junior Badminton Championship will be held at Gurgaon and the Haryana State Senior Badminton Championship is scheduled to be held at Bhiwani in September. |

8-day yoga camp begins

Daid, general secretary of the council, said similar camps would also be organised in other sectors in association with the Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, and the Residents Welfare Associations of the respective sectors, shortly.
