Suicide by villager
: Satnam Singh, a resident of Thekrewal village, died after consuming poison on Sunday. The police has registered a case against Gurmail Singh for abetment to suicide. Satnam Singh’s mother Kirpal Kaur alleged that he was forced to commit suicide by Gurmail Singh. Gurmail Singh was allegedly having illicit relations with a niece of Satnam Singh.

LUDHIANA
Training of trainers: Ludhiana Unit of Food and Nutrition Board has organised a ‘five-day training programme in nutrition and health education, Training of Trainers (TOTs) in the Community Food & Nutrition Extension Unit, Haibowal, beginning today. The camp will be over on June 30 and 25 participants will attend the camp from 10 am to 3 pm regularly.

NAWANSHAHR
Free eye camp: The local Raja Diagnostic Centre and Hospital organised a free ayurvedic medical check up camp at Jain Upasara on Sunday. Baba Naubat Rai, a social worker, inaugurated the camp where Dr Manu Sharma examined as many as
75 patients suffering from various ailments. Medicines free of cost were given to the needy.

Blood donation camp: A blood donation and eye donation camp was organised at Raja Diagnostic Centre and Hospital on Sunday. As many as 34 units of blood were collected at the camp. As many as 30 members of the hospital staff pledged to donate their eyes. Dr J. D. Verma, president of the district Eye Donation Society lauded the gesture of the hospital staff.

Foundation stone: Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, Local Bodies Minister, will lay the foundation stone of schemes for the 100 per cent coverage of Nawanshahr town with sewerage and safe drinking water and Rahon town with 100 per cent safe drinking water facility on Tuesday.

Body found
: The body of Amarnath, a resident of Thanpuri village, was found in a field at Kholi village. Prem Chand, brother of the deceased, told the police that Amarnath had left his house on Saturday and had no animosity with any one.

Probe sought: Former Zila Parishad chief and BJP leader Rattan Jagat Amba has alleged irregularities in the patwari’s examination results which were declared on Friday. He said out of 216 successful candidates, 27 candidates were from a particular series. Mr Amba has demanded a high-level probe into the scam.

52 donate blood
: Fifty-two persons donated blood at a camp organised by the Manas Kalyan Multipurpose Society here on Sunday. Ms Sonia Bhatt, general secretary of the society, said the organisation would soon launch a campaign against social evils like drug addiction.
