Agri engineers in demand

Ludhiana, July 31
Lady luck continues to be benevolent on the final year students of College of Agricultural Engineering. The on-campus interviews by top multinational and national companies hand picked the students almost a year in advance for placement.

As many as 27 graduate engineers of the last batch were placed well before the completion of their degree programme, according to Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering, Dr S.K. Sondhi.

At least three final year students of B.Tech (Agril. Engineering) today got appointment letters from a firm in Pune. Agricultural Engineers, he said, continue to be in demand in tractor, oil engine and agro-processing companies. This only shows the importance and demand of farm engineering graduates in the present scenario.

St. Bawra school celebrates vanamahotsava

Ludhiana, July 31
Vanamahotsava was celebrated at St. Bawra Public High School, New Lajpat Nagar, Ludhiana here yesterday. Bharat Vikas Parishad (Shivaji Shakha ) organised the function on the school premises. Students participated with great enthusiasm. Over 100 saplings were planted in the school ground by the students. They were also given education on environment. Mrs Neera Narula was the coordinator of the event.

Mr Randhir Sharma, president of Bharat Vikas Parishad (Shivaji shakha), was the chief guest.

Principal Mrs Chander Prabha said, “This event is celebrated every year by the school to inculcate the sense of responsibility among the students towards their surroundings and nature. They are made to learn the importance of trees for the survival of the mankind.”

Family reunion function

A family reunion and vanamahotsava function was organised at Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, here today.

Dr H.K. Tiwari, ex-head of the Department of Microbiology (PAU), was the chief guest. Mr Surinder Pal Daudhar, District Guidance Councillor, DEO Office, was the guest of honour.

Mr Daudhar stressed upon the physical development of a child.

Mr Rajinder Sharma, principal, welcomed the guests and enlightened them about progress made by the school.

Dr Tiwari cautioned parents not to desist from their duties towards their wards rather they should devote sufficient time to them. They should not criticise the children for their shortcomings.

The school management announced that a prize of Rs 5,000 each would be awarded to students participating in international events. It also declared that students who would secure more than 90 per cent marks in the annual examination would be given free education.

Welcome party

Students of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Branch Dugri, had a gala time on the activity day. A welcome party was organised for pre-primary classes. Students of Classes I and II came in green colour dresses. They celebrated “Green Day” by planting saplings. The Class III to Class VIII had English recitation competition. All winners were awarded certificates by the Principal, Mrs Anu Gupta.

Guru Ram Das Academy

Members of the Guru Ram Dass Academy were formally decorated today by Mr Amardeep Singh Rai, SSP, at investiture ceremony held here today.

Mr Rai exhorted the students to work for the betterment of the society. Earlier he pinned ‘designation plates’ on their shirts amidst thunderous applause.

Paras Bhandari (head boy); Misha Arora (head girl); Sovina Singh (captain-Teak House); Pushpinder Kaur (captain -Pine House) and Manjot Kaur (captain-Oak House) were decorated on the occasion.

Mehndi competition

Mandi Ahmedgarh: A mehndi applying competition was organised on the concluding day of Teez celebrations at Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School here today.

Ms Kamla Devi Sharma, director of the school, showed concern over the crumbling art of application of mehndi. She said mehndi not only increased the beauty of hands of the girls but also had a medicinal importance. The leaves of mehndi contained certain ingredients that helped human body to fight certain deceases, claimed Ms Sharma.

Taranpreet and Kamaljit Kaur got the first position in junior and senior groups, respectively. Parampreet Kaur and Anu Mishra stood the second and Baby and Priyanka Verma bagged the third prizes. Ms Darshan Kaur and Ms Rachhpal Kaur Sandhu were the judges.

PU Vice-Chancellor honoured

The Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, yesterday organised a function to honour the Panjab University Vice- Chancellor, Prof R.C. Sobti.

Dr Manju Chawla, Principal, welcomed the guest and other dignitaries.

Dr Amarjit Singh Dua, Dean, Development Council, Guru Nanak Dev University, and Prof Buddhiraja, Dean College, Development Council, Panjab University, felicitated Prof Sobti.

Mr P.S. Sangha, a former Principal, Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh, Ms Madan Jit Kaur Sahota, Principal, Master Tara Singh College for Women, Ludhiana, and Prof Ramesh Bhandari, member, Panjab University Senate, spoke on the occasion, among others.

Talk

Master Singh College has organised a talk on importance of NCC for students.

Col S.S. Deol and Lieut Sheshi Singh exhorted the students to join the NCC as it provides a platform for them to channalise their energies towards bringing change in society.

The resource persons asked the students to inculcate a spirit of discipline and patriotism in them.

Veterinary graduates take oath

Ludhiana, July 31
The oath-taking ceremony of the veterinary graduates (B.V.Sc.& A.H.) of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, was solemnised in the Silver Jubilee Block Auditorium of the university here today.

Fifty students (40 boys and 10 girls) were administered the Veterinarians’ Oath by Dr K. S. Roy, Dean, College of Veterinary Science.

Dr O. S. Parmar, Director of Extension Education, gave advice to the new veterinarians on how to start their new career for serving the ailing animals and mankind.

Dr M. S. Oberoi, FAO expert, was also present on the occasion. He congratulated the students about the changing scenario of the veterinary profession and to meet the rising expectations of people from them.

The function was organised by Dr S. S. Sidhu, Head, Department of Veterinary Clinical Services Complex.

All heads of departments, faculty and post-graduate students were also present.

Dr P.S. Mavi highlighted the achievements of the passing-out batch.

Dr S. K. Jand, Dean, Post-graduate Studies, proposed the vote of thanks. He advised the veterinary surgeons to give exemplary services in the field.

Lok Adalat settles 14 cases

Ludhiana, July 31
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum today organised a Lok Adalat under the supervision of Mr A.S. Narula.

The adalat settled 14 of the 29 cases. Compensation worth Rs 8.20 lakh was given.

Members of the forum, Mr Daljit Singh Bakshi, Ms Pooja Dewan and Mr J.K. Walia, and Mr T.R. Arora, a former member of the forum, attended the adalat along with officials of insurance companies.
