Deadline for material on Colonel’s posting
Our High Court Correspondent

Chandigarh, August 17
A Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the Union of India to place on record within two weeks all “incriminating material” connected with the diversion of posting of Lieut-Col Sanjay Sitanshu, prosecutor in the Tehelka court martial case.

The Bench comprising Mr Justice M.M. Kumar and Mr Justice M.M.S. Bedi also directed the Central Government to file a detailed reply as to why the petitioner, holding the rank of lieutenant-colonel, had been posted against an appointment meant for officers of the rank of major.

In a petition filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging his repeated posting orders earlier this year, Colonel Sitanshu had alleged criminal nexus between serving and retired Army officers for furthering vested interests

Contending that the diversion of his posting was the result of such a nexus, he had claimed that he was being victimised as he had refused to help the accused during the Tehelka trials despite being allured repeatedly to do the same.

Of dreams aborted
SD Sharma

Chandigarh, August 17
The Adakar Manch Mohali, in association with the Paragon School, staged a Punjabi play, ‘Anni Gufa,’ at the Tagore Theatre yesterday.
Written and directed by Dr Sahib Sahib, the play was an attempt to understand the complexity of human emotions.

Set against the orthodox pastrol background, the play is potrayal of anguish, desires and dreams of four young daughters of a frastrated and cynical mother who has been holding them to virtual captivity with no interaction with the outside world, imposing her authoritarian rule.

Longing for love and affection, the subjugated girls find solace in the company of two maids, full of life. The play depicts the conflict between attitudes, loyalities, perceptions and passions of two generations — depicted by the antipathetic mother and her daughters. The youngest daughter revolts to secure her love at the cost of sacrificing her life. Despite lucanae in the play, dramatic tensions kept the audience in rapt attention till the end. The music rendition was by Veenu Kautish. The play was based on Lorca’s novel ‘Home of Bemarda Alba’.

Few turn up to see ICC trophy
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, August 17
Only a few persons turned up to see the ICC Champions Trophy that was put on display at Fun Republic multiplex, Mani Majra, today.
The event was held to provide a chance to the local fans to have a close look at the trophy. But much to the disappointment of the organisers, the trophy, for which top cricketing nations will vie in October and November at four venues, including Mohali, only a few people turned up to see the trophy.

Even those who visited the multiplex for other reasons evinced little interest in it. Many people were of the view that it was not the original trophy, but a replica of that. “If it was the original one, why was there no security around it?” said Aayush and Shivom, brothers who had come to see a movie at the multiplex.

Even nobody from the local cricket fraternity bothered to visit the spot. “It was really surprising that no one from the local cricket fraternity came here to boost the event,” said Mr Sanjeev Kumar, a local resident.
