Club members peeved at being denied entry

Resentment prevails among members of the prestigious Sutlej club here over being denied entry to the club premises during NIFD function held on August 20 evening. The members not only grumbled but criticised the club functionaries for providing venue and other club facilities to private organisers for holding such functions in which they (the organisers) allegedly entertained their own guests and club members and their dependents were not allowed to enter.

Cyclist killed

A cyclist was killed and three persons were injured near the Bharat Nagar chowk in an accident involving an autorickshaw and a Sumo today. The autorickshaw banged into the cyclist after it was reportedly hit by the Sumo.

Industry fears labour exodus

The local industry fears exodus of labour to other states if the ongoing power crisis continues. Industry representatives said due to shortage of electricity supply, production had witnessed a decline and costs were rising. As a result, it was getting increasingly difficult to pay wages to labourers.

Budding cagers given basketballs

To make the game of basketball more popular and also to identify the hidden talent among the rural youth, the Punjab Basketball Association (PBA) has chalked out a plan to organise tournaments in the countryside. To promote the game among schoolchildren, the PBA distributed basketballs to more than 300 students.

36 probables for Katoch Shield cricket tournament

More than 50 aspirants turned up for trials conducted by the Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) to select probables for the forthcoming Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Katoch shield to be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association at different venues in the state from September 2.
