Mahajan Sabha:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Mahajan Sabha (ward number 51) : president — Mr Vishwa Mitra Mahajan; vice-president — Mr Sat Pal Gupta; general secretary — Mr Naresh Gupta; and treasurer — Mr Avinash Chander Mahajan.

Award for lecturer:
Manjeet Bansal, a senior lecturer of Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering and Technology, has been awarded the Bharat Jyoti Award for meritorious services in the field of education. MP Mohsina Kidwai, Dr Bhisham Narayan Singh and Chaudhary Randhir Singh gave him the award in New Delhi.

Relay fast:
The district unit of the Punjab State Aided School Teachers and other Employees’ Union started relay fast in front of the local Doaba Arya Senior Secondary School here on Monday to demand justice for the Principal, Mr Hans Raj Sharma.

Health camp: Mr Baldev Nayyar, a social worker, in collaboration with the Lion Club, Banga Mehak, organised a diabetes detection-cum-awareness camp at Banga. As many as 55 patients were examined and were given valuable tips to adopt proper dietary habits and life style of preventing diabetes, informed Mr Ram Kishan Khurana, president.

Mr Harjinder Singh, Managing Director of the Punjab Educational Society, was elected as the president of the association of Self-Financing Colleges of Education, affiliated to Punjabi University at a meeting held here on Monday. The office-bearers are Mr Gurmohan Singh — adviser, Mr Jagjit Singh — vice-president; Mr Jaswant Singh — secretary; Mr Sham Jindal, Mr Parveen Kumar, Mr Parwinder Singh, Dr S.S. Sodhi, Mr Nirmal Singh, Mr Gurtej Singh, Mr S.S. Gandhi and Mr Subhash Kumar, executive members.

Medical camp: The Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team Ladies (Amurtel), a non-government organisation (NGO), held a one-day free medical check-up camp at Jagdish Colony here on Monday. During the camp, nearly 300 needy patients were examined by doctors which included Dr Sunanda (Dentist), Dr J.P.S. Sodhi (Eye Surgeon), Mr T.R. Aggarwal (Physician), Dr Ashish Gupta (Orthopaedician) and Dr (Mrs) Jasleen Kaur.

Boy crushed to death:
Jugraj Singh (12) was crushed to death by a tractor trailer on Sunday near Government College, Patti. The Patti police has registered a case under Sections 304A, 279 of the IPC against Balkar Singh, driver of the tractor-trailor.
