Tribune News Service

Mumbai, September 13
The special TADA court hearing the 1993 Mumbai blasts case will announce the punishment to be awarded to four members of the Tiger Memon family tomorrow.

The four — Tiger’s brothers Yakub, Essa and Yusuf, and sister-in-law Rubina — were found guilty of conspiracy in the blasts case yesterday.

The Memons asked for a deferment after they replaced their lawyer Majeed Memon with Harshad Ponda.

The court is expected to deliver its verdict regarding accused No. 9 to 13 when it convenes tomorrow morning. The five accused — Mohammad Shoaib Ghansar Primke, Asghar Yusuf Muquadam, Abdul Ghani Ismail Turk, Parvez Nazir Ahmed Sheikh and Bashir Ahmed Usmaan — are charged with carrying out the Zaveri Bazaar blasts which killed 17 persons on March 12, 1993.

The court will also deliver its verdict on the 22 persons accused of landing explosives in the Western Coast.

Later, the Memons and their lawyers will make their statements before the court after which there will be arguments over the sentences.

Public Prosecutor Ujwal Nikam said the prosecution would demand the death penalty for Yakub, Essa and Yusuf Memon who were found guilty yesterday.

Explosives found at Malegaon, Nashik

Mumbai, September 13
There were fears of fresh terror attack after a bag of explosives was found inside a shopping centre at Malegaon today.

According to the state police control room, the bomb disposal squad was called to the Mohammadiya Shopping Centre after some shoppers saw a suspicious package packed in a yellow container.

The shopping centre was cordoned off while the investigators went to work. The police said later this afternoon that the package contained explosives attached to a timer. Meanwhile, the police today seized 18 detonators, five gelatin sticks, a country-made pistol and two cartridges from a flat in the Indira Nagar locality in Nashik and arrested four local youths in this connection.— TNS
