Shaheedi Dal International: To raise various issues pertaining to Sikh community, which hurt the sentiments of the community an organisation, Shaheedi Dal International has been constituted under the leadership of Satbir Singh Khalsa, and Gurdev Singh. At its first meeting, the organisation announced its body comprising of 15 office-bearers. These are: Satbir Singh Khalsa (patron), Gurdev Singh (president), Bhai Baldev Singh (advisor), Sukhdev Singh (senior vice-president), Rajinder Singh, Sukhraj Singh Verka (vice-presidents) Jatinder Singh Babbu (general secretary), Manjit Singh Bobby and Lakhwinder Singh (both secretaries).
Case against power theft: On the complaint of Executive Engineer of PSEB City Division, Hoshiarpur, Sadar Police has registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC against Subhash Marwaha of a local marriages palace. The Executive Engineer alleged that Subhash Marwaha had illegally put an extension lead to the main electric fence and was stealing electricity.
Blood donation: Health and Family Welfare Department organised a seminar on “Role of Women in Voluntary Blood Donation” at the local Civil Hospital on Monday. Prominent speakers urged the girl students to make blood donation a way of life. Any healthy person between 18-60 age group having weight of more than 45 kg and haemoglobin more than 12.5 gm can donate blood at an interval of three months.
Satyagrah: The Sikh National College, Banga unit of Punjab & Chandigarh College Teachers Union, has been observing Satyagrah for the past couple of weeks to protest against the injustice being meted out to some college teachers. Ms Kuljit Kaur and Dr Davinder Sharma, president and secretary, respectively, of the association, alleged that the cut on the salary of some teachers had been imposed and some teachers had not been given due installments of DA.
Urged: A deputation of ITI Employees Union, Punjab, led by its president, Mr Sohan Singh Bhangu, met the Technical Education Minister, Ms Gurkanwal Kaur and urged her to expedite the process of department promotions. The deputation told the minister that the Department Promotion Committee ( DPC) had approved the promotions of 45 employees at its meeting held on July 18. The deputation urged the minister to implement the DPC report.
Elected: Mr Satish Charan Tejpal and Mr Darshan Lal Bhardwaj have been elected president and general secretary of the local unit of BJP.
Tributes paid: Rich tributes were paid to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at a function organised by the District Leprosy Society here at Doaba Kushat Ashram to mark Gandhi Jayanti. Mr Parkash Singh, Parliamentary Secretary, Mr Krishan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Balbir Singh, Civil Surgeon, among others, addressed the gathering.
