Tribune News Service

New Delhi, October 13
The Shiromani Akali Dal (Longowal) today demanded white paper from the Amarinder Singh government on the Ludhiana City Centre scam.

The party chief, Prem Singh Chandumajra, told newspersons that several questions remained unanswered that the Congress government in the state need to come out with the white paper giving details of the incentives being offered by the state and how the government and the people of Punjab would benefit.

The pointed questions raised by Chandumajra were the quantum of incentives given, why power being given at subsidized rate, what was the rate of the land and electricity being charged and price being given to the farmers whose land was being taken for SEZs , the quantum of investment that has come and the benefit it would accrue to the state.

Claiming that SAD (Badal) was not the true representative of the Akalis, he hinted that the formation of third front during the forthcoming assembly polls in the state.

“Things would become more clear after our formal talks with the BSP,” he said.

Chandumajra, who today held a dharna here and later gave a memorandum to the Prime Minister, said “since all the land in Punjab was fertile, the compensation being given to the farmers should be much higher as it also involved the wider issue of rehabilitating them.” “The government should implement the recommendations of the Dr Swaminathan, who heads the National Commission of Farmers, that no fertile land should be taken for making the SEZs,” he said in the memorandum.
