Dacoity at BJP leaderís factory; man shot at
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, November 25
Five armed robbers struck at the office of a BJP leader-cum-Industrialist in his factory in Industrial Area-I late this evening and decamped with cash and jewellery. They shot at and injured a trader in the right shoulder before fleeing.

At about 6:45 pm when the BJP leader and former councillor, Mr Sunil Mehra, was in his office with his brothers and some traders, the robbers, brandishing arms, barged in and demanded cash. They also ordered the hostages to hand over the jewellery worn by them.

Police sources said Mr Mehra tried to hide a bag containing cash. At this, the robbers opened fire, injuring a fellow trader, Mr G S Bhatia. They then fled on two motorcycles with the cash bag and a packet of bank drafts.

The police suspects that a gang of robbers that had struck in the city in a similar fashion thrice earlier could be involved in the crime. A red alert has been sounded.
