Accident
: Ranbir Singh died and Gurpal Singh was injured seriously in an accident at Dhanula road when a tractor trailer coming from Handiaya by pass hit the motorcycle they were riding on Monday.

Car stolen: A couple from Sherpur came to attend a marriage at Sood Palace on the Bazakhana road Barnala on Sunday evening. Their Maruti car (DL-02/CA-0232) was stolen. A case has been registered.

Training camp: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) will organise two Congress Party booth workers training camps at Bharatgarh (Anandpur Sahib Constituency) on December, 27 and Kothala (Sherpur Reserved Constituency) on December, 30 according to Mr Hardeep Kumar Goyal, Chairman Department of Training PPCC.

SAMARITAN IN TROUBLE: Goggi, a truck driver of Dholan village has invited trouble for himself in his action to save a person from death. He spotted Mohlu, a resident of the same village, lying on the road in an inebriated condition on Monday. Goggi took him to his home on his bicycle. Mohlu suffered a cardiac arrest and died instantly when Goggi tried to lay him on a cot.

CYCLIST KILLED: Jiwan Singh of Pakhowal was killed when his cycle was hit by a truck driven on the Pakhowal-Jodhan road.

3 booked: Three Haryana Irrigation Department officials and a landowner were today booked by the police allegedly for tampering with records pertaining to discharge of canal water following the orders of a local court. Parshotam Das of Suba Khera village had alleged the three tampered with the records after accepting illegal gratification from the landowner Rajinder Singh. A court directed the police to register a case against Ashok Kumar, Iqbal Singh and Surta Ram, the Irrigation Department officials named in the complaint.

4 held: The police on Tuesday arrested four persons and seized 15 stolen LPG gas cylinders from their possession. The arrested accused were identified as Geja Singh, Sita Ram, Mubarak and Deepu.

Mysterious death
: Mystery shrouds the death of Sahil (eight-month) whose body was found on a cot in his house at Datauli village 25 km from here on Monday. It is suspected that Sahil had been murdered. The mother of the child had gone outside to fetch water. On return she found the boy murdered.

: Shrikanshi Sumeru Peethadish Jagatguru Shankracharya, Swami Narendranand Saraswasti addressing a Hindu’ Sammelan here on Monday said the family planning norms should not be confined to the Hindu community only and efforts must be made to bring under purview of the programme other communities also. He demanded the tax levied on the Hindu pilgrims of Kailash Mansarovar, Amarnath Yatra, Allahabad (Paryag Tirath) Yatra and other place be abolished.

Several booked: The police has booked several residents of Vasant Vihar Colony here allegedly for threatening the District Town Planner (DTP) who was assaulted by a mob when he had led a team to demolish unauthorised constructions in the colony on Friday. Satpal and others were booked under Sections 332, 353, 186, 341, 504 and 506 of the IPC.

Diploma engineers
: Diploma assistant engineers of the HP State Electricity Board (HPSEB) from the local zone resigned from the membership of the State Power and Project Electrical Engineer Association (SPPEEA) on Monday in protest against the association opposing the recently amended promotion rules for diploma engineers. Justifying new promotion rules for diploma engineers the assistant engineers said after implementation of amended rules the diploma engineers would get only two promotions whereas degree holders would get four during service. The HPSEB diploma holder engineers association accused the board of discrimination against the diploma holders.

Ex-servicemen’s plea: All-India Army Ex-servicemen Seva Parishad, Kangra district, unit at a meeting at Kandwal near here on Monday appealed to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for not giving clemency to Afzal Beg, a militant awarded death sentence for attack on parliament in 2001. The parishad also urged the state government to exempt from toll tax all Army ex-servicemen living near border areas of Kangra district as they with families have to visit Pathankot for treatment in the military hospital, CSD canteens and Army cantonment area for pension.
