No FIR in fraud case even after
a month
Jalandhar, December 30 The NRI, Mr Pardeep Singh Bhangu’s double-storyed house built on three marla plot on the Jalandhar-Nakodar road at Abadi Dharampura at Khambra village falling under Lambra police station was sold fraudulently by some unauthorised persons, including his own uncle, on November 30. When he came to know about the fraud in Canada, he immediately returned to India on December 3 and since then he has been visiting different police officers but to no avail. Mr Bhangu said he had met the then SSP, Mr Ishwar Singh, and the new SSP, Mr Naunihal Singh, and the SP (HQ), Mr Opinderjeet Singh Ghuman, requesting them to take action against the culprits. Mr Ghuman had marked an inquiry to the DSP (Rural-II), Mr Jagmohan Singh Kang, he added. When contacted, the DSP said that he had already submitted his inquiry report to the SSP recommending registration of the FIR in this case and hopefully the same would be lodged soon. Meanwhile, the SHO of Lambra police station, Mr Pritam Singh, told The Tribune that the file was probably lying with the DA (Legal) for getting legal opinion in this regard. As soon as he got the necessary directions, the FIR would be registered immediately. Mr Bhangu told The Tribune that he along with his family members, including his mother, had left for Canada a few years ago and asked his uncle, Harmesh Lal, to look after their house, but he made a plan with some persons to grab it, he added. As part of the plan, Harmesh Lal obtained a fake general power of attorney from an impersonator presented as Bhangu and the same was registered by the Sub-Registrar (I) on November 22. Interestingly, the details of the visits entered in Mr Bhangu’s passport clearly indicate that he was in Canada on that day. Further within two days, Harmesh Lal made a general power of attorney of the house in the name of Amarjeet Singh Sodhi of Ram Nagar, Jalandhar, and the same was also registered by the Sub-Registrar (I) on November 24. Subsequently, within a week, Sodhi sold the house to Mohinder Pal of Khambra village and the fake deed was again registered by the Sub-Registrar on November 30. According to the attested copies procured by The Tribune, the entire process of issuing two powers of attorney and execution and registration of the fake sale deed was done within nine days. While the market value of the NRI’s house is around Rs 40 lakh, the registration of the fake sale deed was made in favour of Mohinder Pal of the same village for just Rs 1.25 lakh. The NRI said that some of the culprits had threatened him after calling him on his phone and he had brought the matter to the notice of the SSP, Mr Naunihal Singh, on December 26. |
CPI (ML) burns effigy of Bush
Jalandhar, December 30 The CPI (ML) organised the protest to express its sentiments against the execution of deposed President of Iraq Saddam Hussain. Its workers converged on the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall from where they marched to Company Bagh where they not only burnt the effigy of George Bush but also raised slogans like “Kaumantri dehshatgard Bush nu fahe layo” and “Manukhta da quatil Bush, murdabad.” Addressing the workers, Mr Ajmer Singh, a leader of the CPI (ML), alleged that the execution of Saddam Hussain depicted that the US Administration could violate judicial norms, could get defence lawyers killed and put up false witnesses in its bid to get somebody killed through its own judicial system. “The execution of Saddam Hussain has stirred the anti-US sentiments in the entire world as the US Administration cared two hoots for world opinion. It even did not bother for its own supporters like France, Sweden and other countries. India too had opposed the execution mildly. Bush had tormented people more than Saddam Hussain. He is responsible for murder of thousands of people,” said Mr Ajmer Singh. Mr Tarsem Peter, Mr Hans Raj Pabwan and Mr Jaswinder Bhogal, all leaders of the party, alleged that the US Administration was leaving no stone unturned to set up a new world order which only suited it. |

IOC opens LPG outlet for vehicles in Punjab
Jalandhar, December 30 According to Mr H.S. Bedi, the General Manager, IOC, large format petrol stations, called ‘swagat’, were likely to be set up within six months. The IOC planned to launch LPG Auto gas stations in nine more major Punjab cities to cover the state by the end of next year. An auto LPG dispensing station cost about Rs 50 lakh. “Auto LPG is the fuel for the future and the IOC is striving hard to maximise its usage. LPG as auto fuel is lead-free and is a much cleaner fuel which leaves no residue. It is better than petrol as it reaches the engine in a pure gaseous form leading to an improved and a smooth combustion as a result of a higher octane number,” said Mr Bedi. He said more than 80 petrol pumps were planned to be covered in the first phase. |

Sanmaan samoroh by UPKAR
Nawanshahr, December 30 The drive known as ‘Nawanshahr Model’, a brain child of the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Krishan Kumar, was launched in the district last year. Results of the campaign have started pouring in as 112 villages, out of 490 in the district, have a more balanced male-female ratio.
The Deputy Commissioner congratulated panchayats, anganwari workers, ANMs, officials of different departments and NGOs for their efforts and warned them against complacency. The results should guide them all to re-dedicate themselves to put in extra efforts to bring a change in the mindset of the people to make the district an example, he said. Lamented that urban areas had not shown as encouraging results, he asked municipal Councilors to get inspiration from the village panchayats.
