A Sector 23-D resident and his friend were killed in the wee hours today when a car they were travelling in and a jeep collided on the National Highway 21 near Nilokheri, about 18 km from Karnal.

D. Simpson, a Herpetologist from Oxford, U.K., will be in the city on Thursday.
Mr Simpson will deliver a lecture on “Management of Snake Bite in Indian
context” in lecture theatre No.1, Nehru Hospital , PGI. A number of
herpetologists from the region will attend the lecture and will share their
experiences in treating patients with snake bites. The lecture will help
herpetologists in providing better treatment to patients.

Chilly wind kept residents indoors

In spite of the sun shining bright during the day, the chilly wind that swept the city in the morning and the evening ensured that the residents continue to remain indoors. There was a sharp difference in the maximum and minimum temperatures at 19. 4°C and 4. 2°C, respectively.
Police awards youths for helping nab robbers
Chandigarh, January 3
The Chandigarh police today awarded first-class certificates to seven youngsters, instrumental in the arrest of two robbers, who looted a Sector 16 resident of Rs 35,000 last night.

Officials authorised to lodge complaints of power theft
Chandigarh, January 3
With a view to come down heavily on those stealing electricity using kundi connections in the city, the Chandigarh Administration has authorised officers of the electricity wing of the engineering department to lodge complaints with the Police in this regard. A notification to this effect was issued today by Mr S.K. Sandhu, Secretary, Engineering.
