Sensex slips 208 points

Mumbai, January 8
Benchmark Sensex fell sharply by 208 points to close at 13,652 levels even as scores of mid and small cap shares registered gains at the end of the session.

In the broader markets, Nifty shed 1.3 per cent or 50 points to end at 3933 levels. Among the major losers today was Maruti Udyog which fell 4.1 per cent or Rs 38. Tech scrips like Wipro, Infosys Technologies and Satyam Computers slipped over three per cent each.

Reliance Communication, Bajaj Auto, ACC, SBI, HDFC Bank, Hindalco and Bharti Airtel also closed in negative territory. Today’s gainers were, however, ONGC that gained 1.7 per cent at Rs 910. Ranbaxy and DRL also closed in positive territory.
