Mobiles snatched
: Sukhchain Singh and Rajdeep Singh of Bruj Littan allegedly snatched a Nokia mobile phone from Kulwinder Singh of Ranke from Bhatha Dhun village. They came on a motor cycle and snatched the cell phone. The Humbaran police registered a case under Sections 382 and 34 of the IPC and later arrested the accused. In another incident, two unknown motor cycle borne persons snatched a Nokia mobile phone from Dharminder Singh of Sekhupura on January 6. The Dakha police has registered a case under Sections 382 and 34 of the IPC.

Scooterist hurt: Kulwinder Singh of Dashmesh Nagar, Mullanpur, was injured when a car hit his scooter. The Dakha police has registered a case under Sections 279, 337 and 427 of the IPC. He has been admitted to Jeevan Hospital, Ludhiana.

One held with liquor: The Sidhwan Bet police has arrested Gurdev Singh, alias Kali, of Kulgehna from Kotumra and recovered 9000 ml of illicit liquor. A case under the Excise Act has been registered.

Conference
: Dr S.S. Tiwana, Professor and Head, Department of Public Administration, Punjabi University, attended the 53rd Annual Conference of the Indian Political Science Association which was held at Jaipur on December 27. Dr Tiwana chaired the technical session (panel VII) on constitutional governments in India. He was also elected as the vice-president of Indian Political Science Association, as per press note issued here on Wednesday.

Office-bearers: The District Congress Committee (urban) constituted a new body of its legal cell here on Wednesday. The office bearers of the newly constituted body is directly under the state legal cell. The office-bearers are as follows: chairman: Varinder Dewan; general secretary: Surinder Gupta; secretary: Dhiraj Puri; joint secretary: Harinder Rana; other executive members were also present there.

Appointed: Mr Harpal Juneja has been appointed general secretary of the All-India Youth Akali Dal by its president, Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, as per a press note issued here today.

Loan disbursed
: The Cooperative Bank has disbursed loans worth Rs 12 crore to more than 4,250 self- help groups in the state for strengthening the rural economy. The Excise and Taxation Minister, Mr Rangila Ram Rao, said this while inaugurating the 159th branch of the state Cooperative Bank at Chandehs in the Gopalpur constituency.
