1400 examined at medical camp

Ludhiana, January 31
Over 1400 patients were examined and given free medicines at a medical camp organised by the Baba Vishwakarma Seva Dal at Merrymint Public School in New Amar Nagar locality here today. The camp was organised in memory of Shri Madhav Sadashiv Rao Golvalkar (Guru Ji), the second Sar Sanghchalak of the Rashtriya Sewa Sangh.

According to Mr Shakti Sharma, Chairman and Mr Rajnish Dhiman, President of the Sewa Dal, who supervised the arrangements for patients at the camp, a team of doctors comprising Dr Lovi Lekhi, Dr G.S. Anand, Dr V.K. Sachdeva, Dr Harbhajan Singh, Dr Manpreet Kaur and Dr Anu Bhardwaj conducted the medical check-up.

Inaugurating the camp, Mr V.M. Verma, Assistant Commissioner of Central Excise, lauded the initiative of the organisers in providing specialised medical care to the underprivileged section of society.

Mr Ashok Loomba, general secretary of the district unit of the BJP, presented mementos to doctors in recognition of their services to the community.

Mr Harish Bedi, Mr Hira Singh Gabria and Mr Darshan Singh Shivalik, candidates of the SAD-BJP alliance fielded from Ludhiana North, Ludhiana Rural and Dakha Assembly segments were also present.

GTB National College enter semis

Ludhiana, January 31
Hosts GTB National College, Dakha, emerged triumphant against Government College and secured a berth in the last four in the Panjab University Inter-College Cricket Tournament (B Division) at GTB National College ground, Dakha, near here, today. The match was halted midway because of rain and the issue was resolved by the spin of the coin.

Government College, Karamsar, won the toss and elected to bat. In the 40-over encounter, they were 119 for the loss of four wickets after 31.1 overs when it started raining. Vishal and Satnam contributed 26 and 28 runs, respectively, while Sagar made 18. For GTB National College, Pankaj Sharma grabbed two wickets for 15 runs in four overs while Jatinder chipped in with two wickets for 22 runs in six overs.

As the match could not be completed, it was decided to declare the winners with the help of a coin. Luck favoured GTB National College and they romped home victorious.

In the semifinals, GTB National College will take on Khalsa College, Ghadiwal, and Government College, Zira will battle it out with GPC College, Alour.

GDSD College win v’ball title

Ludhiana, January 31
GDSD College, Hariana, pipped MBG Government College, Pojewal, in straight sets (3-0) to emerge champions in the Panjab University Inter-College Volleyball Tournament for boys which concluded at Govind National College, Narangwal, near here, today. Earlier, Government College, Karamsar, went down fighting 1-3 against MBG Government College, Pojewal, to secure the third position.

Ms Ravinder Pal Kaur Grewal, wife of Prof Gurnam Singh Grewal, member, management committee of the host college, gave away the prizes to the winners. Dr Hardiljit Singh Ghosal, Principal of Govind National College, Mr Harnaik Singh Gill, Vice-Principal, Prof Kanwar Ranbir Singh and other faculty members were present at the prize distribution function.

Dr Ghosal congratulated the participants and the tournament conduct committee members.
