EC warns Sukhbir
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, February 2
The Election Commission has taken umbrage to the violation of the Model Code of Conduct by Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Badal and 10 others belonging to different parties.

The poll panel expressed its displeasure and, after considering the replies by these leaders, warned that they should be careful in the future. Those to get a rap on the knuckles, apart from Mr Sukhbir Badal, were Mr Jagmohan Singh Kang, Mr R.J. Bajwa, Mr Feteh Jung Bajwa, Mr Pratap Singh, Mr R C Dogra, Mr Raghubir Singh, Mr Dalbir Singh Maini, Mr Kapil Batra, Mr Jagmeet Singh Brar and Ms Gurkanwal Kaur.

They were earlier issued show-cause notices. In its notice to Mr Sukhbir Badal, the EC said he had used a helicopter to address an election rally in support of his party candidate. The chopper had landed in a school ground, which was a breach of security, and no permission was obtained from the district authorities for the same.

Meanwhile, the commission has suspended Mr Sanjay Kumar Yadav, SDM of Jaswantnagar in UP and a state government employee, Badan Singh Lekhpal, for dereliction of duty in revising electoral rolls and directed the state government to initiate disciplinary proceedings against them as per service rules.
