Lucknow, February 3
In a damage control exercise the state government today decided to suspend the Circle Officer (CO), Noida, in charge, Nithari, Dinesh Yadav, who was yesterday transferred to 14th PAC battalion in Agra. In another move, the SSP Gautam Buddha Nagar, Mr R K S Rathore, has finally been transferred and attached to the DGP’s office in the state capital.

Mr Rajiv Sabharwal, SSP Kumbh Mela, would take over as the new SSP in place of Rathore. The information on these vital developments in the Nithari case came during a press briefing by Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh at the party office this morning.

Yadav’s transfer and now suspension is in response to a sting operation by a private news channel in which it had claimed that the CO had spoken to the brother of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav at least three times within 16 minutes on January 1, just a day before a special police team was to visit the scene of crime — the place where skeletal remains of several children were found. The sting operation had apparently shown the Circle Officer in Nithari accepting favours from businessman Mohinder Singh Pandher, one of the main accused in the killing of children.

The expose has brought out that the suspended officer had travelled to Allahabad High Court and Lucknow at Pandher’s expense.

According to a PTI report, Noida SSP Rathore today ironically got support from families of the victims, who protested the transfer saying he had been a big help to them. Parents of the serial killing victims gathered outside Rathore’s office here to express their support for him. They also threatened to return aid and land. They submitted a memorandum to District Magistrate Ajay Chauhan.
