3 killed as car skids into canal
Doraha, March 11
Three of the five occupants of a car were killed when their vehicle fell into the Doraha canal near here last night. The car occupants were going from Anandpur Sahib to their native village, Pone Kothe in Jagraon, when it skidded near the Gurthali Pull of Doraha.

Snatchers strike again

After a lull of some months, the gang of robbers riding a motorcycle and specialising in snatching purses, valubales and jewellery from women is again active in the city for the past several days.

Male journalists in the city held a special function to mark International Women’s Day. The effort was appreciated by women journalists for organising the function to honour women reporters. The event, which was not sans male bashing, came as a pleasant change for the reporters.

600 examined at medical camp
Ludhiana, March 11
Over 600 patients were examined at a free medical camp organised by Shri Nav Durga Mandir Trust at Durga Mata Mandir in Sarabha Nagar here today. The camp coincided with inauguration of new dental department and X-Ray unit in the temple hospital.

Anti-polio drops administered

The district health authorities claimed to have administered the anti-polio vaccine to more than 60 per cent of the children in Sangrur district today. The other children will be provided vaccine during a door-to-door campaign over the next two days.

Dr Bikram Brar, a neuro-spinal surgeon, successfully performed an innovative procedure on a 65-year old hemiplegic patient with marvellous results.

Children given anti-polio drops

Ludhiana, March 11
In the drive against polio, more than 65 per cent of the 5.39 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 were given polio drops in the district today. A team of health workers and volunteers will make door-to-door rounds of the city as also towns and villages on Monday and Tuesday to immunise the left-out children.
SAD-B legislator from Ludhiana West Harish Rai Dhanda inaugurated the pulse polio campaign by giving drops to children at a booth on the canal bridge on the Pakhowal road in the morning.

Sandeep Kaur declared best athlete
Ludhiana March 11
Sandeep Kaur bagged five gold medals and was named the best athlete in the annual sports meet of Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Civil Lines held here today. She won in the 100 m sprint, 800 m, javelin throw, long jump and high jump events.
