FAREWELL: Jaspreet Talwar, outgoing deputy commissioner, was given a farewell by officials of the district at Bachat Bhavan on Wednesday. She has posted as special secretary, finance.

2 booked for assault:
Harbans Singh alias Bhola and Surinder Singh alias Shinda of Mukanpur allegedly assaulted Nachhattar Singh of the same village with sticks. The injured was admitted to the Civil Hospital Dehlon. A case under sections 324, 34 of the IPC has been registered by the police. Sudden quarrel is said to be the reason behind the incident. No arrests have been made so far.

: Members of Khalsa Sports Club planted more than 500 saplings at Farour village. The trees include Ashoka, lestonia among. Club chairman Chaturvir Singh, Naib Singh, Baljinder Singh Rinku, veternery pharmasist Sukhwinder Singh and members of the club were present on the occasion.

Eye camp: A free eye-check up camp will be held at Ria village on March 16. Eye specialists Dr Naresh Chauhan and Dr Deeru Chauhan will examined patients at the camp.

HELD FOR GRAFT: The local Vigilance has arrested a section officer of the Rajpura municipal council Pardeep Kumar on the charges of corruption. He had allegedly absconded during a vigilance raid a few days ago with a bribe money of Rs 15,000.

RELEASED: President of the State Bank of Patiala, Ladies Club, Mala Varma, released a folder in Hindi on cancer awareness here on Wednesday. It has been prepared and designed by Dr Bal, Rajindera Hospital, Patiala, in collaboration with Nirmal Verma Memorial Cancer-Cry Care Society.

Girdavri ordered
: Administration has ordered a special girdavri to assess damage due to hailstorm and fiery winds. Sources said the rain damaged crops in 16 surrounding villages. Baldev Singh SDM told the media that the special girdavri orders have been placed and according the recommendations the affected people will be duly compensated.

UK media team: A team of a UK-based channel visited the Physical Education College, Jhakraudi, today and held a declamation on ‘Olympians are born or made’. This programme will be telecast next week, said channel director Inderjit Deogan.

ROADS: The Panchkula Punjabi Sabha on Tuesday said the municipal council had spent huge amounts of money on the repair of roads but to no avail. Roads in Sector 2 were re-carpeted in 2004-05 but had to be repaired in 2006-07. However, these were completely washed away in the recent rain spell.

FPAI building: President of the Family Planning Association of India M.N. Tavergiri today inaugurated the FPAI building and drop-in centre for MSMs in Haripur village, Sector 4, here on Wednesday. While president of the local chapter Veena Monga gave an account of the projects run and maintained by the branch, Patron, FPA (India) Nina Puri said the body comprised voluntary members.

YOUTH ENDS LIFE: A youth allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan in Ambala city on Tuesday. The deceased Ravi Kumar reportedly came to Ambala city to meet one of his close relatives on Monday. The body was handed over to his relatives after the post-mortem.

gets life term: Additional sessions judge Rajan Gupta on Tuesday convicted Mindlu, a resident of Dhutta village in Chamba district for the offence of killing her three-year-old grandson. She has been given life imprisonment and has been fined Rs 20,000.

Ayurvedic doc dies in mishap: Desh Raj, an ayurvedic doctor, died while his friend, Randhir Kumar was injured when a vehicle hit their scooter near Palampur on Tuesday night. Desh Raj (42) and Randhir Kumar (41) were on their way back home from Nagrota Bagwan to Palampur when their scooter was hit at Nalti bridge. Randhir Kumar has been admitted to the civil hospital, Palampur.

Youth dead: A drunk youth slipped into a deep gorge near Ghurkari Chowk, Kangra, and died on Tuesday night. The body sent for a postmortem examination. A case has been registered.

MISSING PERSONS: The Doon BJP has taken serious note of disappearance of five persons in the Nalagarh area in the past one year. At a meeting held at Patta Mehlog, about 10 km from here on Monday, the party blasted the administration and the police for its failure to trace the missing persons.
