Abandoned girlchild’s mother found

It was depression, says father

The local police today traced a woman, who had allegedly abandoned her three-week-old daughter in Sector 16 General Hospital on February 26. The woman was today taken to the Sector 23 Missionaries of Charity for identification of the infant, where she burst into tears on seeing the baby, said the police.

A local court today sent Sunil Kumar, accused of kidnapping his two girl students, along with his accomplices - his servant and his wife - to judicial custody. Sources in the police said the girls were medically examined.

The innovative grid system for local CTU bus routes is proving to be a headache for authorities with a majority of routes being listed “loss-making ventures”. Barring a handful of profitable routes, none of the other routes has conjured any major shift in the volume of passengers or earnings.

5 months on, healing still eludes rape victim
Panchkula, March 15
A rape victim, found near the Mansa Devi temple today morning, was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6. Volunteers of Jeevan Mukt Nishulk Vidyalaya, Panchkula, spotted the woman and took her to the hospital. It was then discovered that she is a patient there and has been admitted to the hospital for more than five months.

Left decries Nandigram killing

The Marxist Communist Party of India (United) has condemned the CPM-led West Bengal government and its police for brutal repression of farmers at Nandigram. Twelve persons 12 were killed and around 200 suffered bullet injuries in the police attack yesterday.

Three deaths, including a suicide, were reported from various parts of the city today. In another incident, a woman suffered 35 per cent burns in Sector 30 early this morning.

Booked for rash driving

The local police has booked the driver of Canter No. HR-37-A-4438 for negligent driving leading to the death of a Mubarakpur resident. According to a complaint lodged by Mohinder Singh, a resident of Mubarakpur, Viras Kumar was walking when he was hit by the Canter.

Murder suspect surrenders
Mohali, March 15
The main suspect in the murder of a truck driver in the clash between two groups of a truck operators union surrendered here yesterday. Amritpal Singh, who had allegedly stabbed Karnail Singh with his kirpan near the office of the truck operators union on Tuesday, surrendered in a court.

Man held for cheating

The local police today arrested a Bapu Dham colony resident for allegedly duping people visiting the children traffic park, Sector 23, for taking driving tests. The accused, Pawan Arora, used to dupe them on account of facilitating the issuance of driver’s licence.

Six months after the infamous Jammu and Kashmir sex scandal was transferred to the Chandigarh District Courts, District and Session Judge B.S. Mehndiratta today concluded arguments on two of the accused, G.A. Mir, a sitting MLA, and Iqbal Khanday, an IAS officer.

Barnala case: Court may question victim again

In the rape case involving former MLA of the SAD from Dhuri, Gaganjit Singh Barnala, the prosecution is now banking on the Supreme Court ruling in the infamous Best Bakery case. The victim may be now called again for questioning. On December 15, 2006, she had gone back on her statement made to the police and feigned ignorance about the identity of the suspect.
