Samrala police station is tops
P.S. Batra

Samrala, March 16
Samrala police station has been adjudged as one of three top police stations in India with an average aggregate score of 95.62 points against the state average of 65.66 and the nation average of 69.55 as per the findings of Altus Global Alliance (AGA), an NGO based at The Hague, Netherlands.

The organisation is represented in 24 countries to assess the quality of services delivered in the participating police stations and to identify the best practices in use by the police and to strengthen accountability of the police to the local citizenry.

The parameters for the rating were community orientation, equal treatment, transparency and accountability and detention conditions.

A visitor here is greeted with a box affixed on the outer wall near the entrance meant for receiving the complaints from the public without even entering the building or meeting any one in side. The complaints are taken care of by the highest person in authority in the district i.e. SSP or his authorised person in his office, this correspondent learnt.

The entrance to the building is painted like any other normal building, shedding the usual red- blue combination. There is separate parking for visitors’ vehicles and the staff. A ramp has been provided at the entrance to main building for use by handicapped persons.

Allying the fear of the victims, a desk officer on duty attends to take note of the complaint or the cause of the visit round the clock, writes the first information report (FIR), hands over a copy of the same without any hitch. The officer on duty also writes the application for complainant, if necessary. All kinds of information, like follow up, investigating officer, progress in the matter of complaints made etc. shall be provided at the desk, the duty desk officer informed.
