Tribune News Service

Srinagar, March 20
Four militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit and two Army men, one of them a Captain, were killed in an encounter in Chottimarg and Anderbog villages of Lolab in Kupwara district of north Kashmir today.

The police here said three militants were killed at Chottimargi and one militant was killed at Anderbog. Acting on specific information about the presence of militants, a joint operation was launched by the police and Army in Chottimarg early this morning. The hiding militants opened fire on the search party. In the exchange of fire lasting five hours, three militants were killed. One more militant was killed in the Anderbog village as he had escaped from Chottimarg, the police said.

According to a defence spokesman, the Captain was leading his troops while establishing the inner cordon around the group of houses. The militants being at a place of advantage, started firing at the approaching officer. The Captain, along with lance Naik Bhawan Singh, retaliated and blocked the exit thus trapping the militants inside.
