SEMINAR: Member of the Fiscal Committee of Chartered Accountants of India Girish Ahuja shared his views with local chartered accountants at a seminar held here on Tuesday. The seminar on Budget proposals was organised by the Patiala branch of the Northern India Regional Council. Chairman of the council Anil Jindal and secretary Deepak Malhotra also spoke.


Gurmat smagam
: The annual gurmat smagam will begin at Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Eye Hospital Trust from March 22. The samagam, which is being organised in the memory of Sant Atar Singh Mastuana Sahib and Bhai Sahib Bhai Jasbir Khalsa Khannewale, will conclude on March 25. Prominent “hazuri raagis” from the Golden Temple would perform kirtan.


FRESH WATER: A seminar on “Fresh water crisis: A global phenomenon” was held at Government College, Ambala cantt, on Tuesday. It was inaugurated by director, postal services, Kavita Singh. Principal of the college S.S. Phulia said there were more than 100 participants at the seminar.


36 cattle dead
: As many as 36 heads of cattle perished in a fire which broke out in a cluster of four cowsheds at Baloti on Monday, the report said.

Life term for 4 of family
: The additional district and sessions judge of Kangra P.K. Hazari based at Dharamsala on Tuesday sentenced four members of a family to life imprisonment after holding them guilty in a murder case. Mehar Chand, his wife Reshma Devi and two sons, Sarwan Kumar and Ajay Kumar, all residents of Baroh (Kangra), had been found guilty of murdering their neighbour, Dayalu Ram. A fine of Rs 25,000 each was also imposed.

Lawyers’ demand: Lawyers of Kangra district will meet Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday to demand setting-up a Circuit Bench of the high court in Dharamsala. They are on a strike for the past 16 days.

Seminar: Rajiv Gandhi Post-Graduate College of Ayurveda Paprola, Kangra, is organising a two-day seminar on April 27 and 28 to discuss the latest research in the traditional system of medicines and device ways and means of propagating it.

Employee dies: An employee of the IPH Department Rajinder Singh died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning. He died on the way, while going on duty.

Truck burnt
: A truck (PB-05J-3369) on the Jalandhar-Pathankot national highway, near Milwan, was burnt to ashes, when it suddenly caught fire. The tyre of the truck burst and the driver lost his control on the steering. As a result, the truck hit against the roadside tree, and it caught fire.

2 die in mishap
: Two persons died on the spot and another seriously injured when their truck, in which they were travelling, rolled down into a gorge near Didoghatti, 30 km from here, in upper Shimla, on Wednesday. The driver and his companion died. A case has been registered.

BSNL coupons: The non-availability of BSNL recharge coupons in the district has become a cause of contention among the distributors. The distributors have now demanded opening of direct counters by the BSNL to facilitate the subscribers.
