Fatehgarh Sahib
: Nilabh Kishore, SSP, convened a meeting of district police officials here on Monday. He told them that the public grievances should be redressed on a priority basis.

Agitation plans
: The central leadership of CITU, Khet Mazdoors Union and Kisan Sabha had decided to launch a country wide agitation on April 18 in support of their demands. Gurmesh Singh, CITU president, Hoshiarpur unit, criticised both the central government and the Punjab government for failing to curb the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

Shobha yatra: People celebrated Ramnavmi by taking out a procession. The ‘Shobha Yatra’ was taken out in the main bazaars of the city on Tuesday.

Four arrested: Four persons were arrested from different localities with 49 kilograms of poppy husk and 100 gram of smack in their possessions. All the accused have been booked under various sections of the NDPS Act.

Hawala money seized
: The police arrested Kuljinderjit Singh a resident of Dhudike and seized Rs. three lakh, from him which he has allegedly distributing as hawala transactions in Mukandpur area on Tuesday. A police party led by Mukandpur SHO Angrez Singh arrested Kuljinderjit at bus stand of village Hakimpur. SSP, Arun Pal Singh, said that the police has initiated action under FEMA and and the matter has been brought into the notice of DRI, Jalandhar for further investigation.

Police inaction: In a complaint filed with the SSP, Ranjit Sajjan of Balachaur, has accused the Balachaur SHO of favouring some persons who opened fire at the latter besides issuing threats. The complainant alleged that Goga, son of a police inspector, along with 15-20 miscreants, came at his residence on March 20 and threatened his family members. Terming the allegations as baseless, SHO, Balachaur, Tejpal Singh, said that the police had immediately come into action and registered a case.

: A blood donation camp was organised by the Vishaw Jagriti Mission at Gobind Bagh Ashram, Rajpura road, Patiala, on Monday. It was inaugurated by MLA Kuldeep Bhattal. As many as 211 youths from different units of the ashram donated blood.

PROGRAMME: The Punjab Pollution Control Board will hold a two-day training programme on “management of hazardous waste and industrial accidents” at Hotel Mountview, Chandigarh, from March 28. Chief secretary, Punjab, Ramesh Inder Singh will inaugurate the programme.



1 dies in mishap:
One persons was killed and another wounded when a tractor (HP-48-2190) veered off the road and overturned near Maredi on the Chamba-Sahoo road yesterday. Sanju was killed while Rattan Chand was injured and admitted to the Civil Hospital. A case has been registered. 

Street play staged:
A street play was staged at Gandhi Chowk, Hamirpur, to mark World Theatre Day on Tuesday. Enacted by the theatrical group of Sanjay Sood and others, the play aimed at spreading awareness about AIDS. It was sponsored by the Department of Language and Culture.

One killed in accident:
One person was killed and another seriously injured when the car (HP-10-0631) they were travelling in rolled down a khud near Lower Bharari on Tuesday. Ami Chand Dipta of Kotkhai was driving the vehicle. He died on the spot. Padam Singh was seriously injured in the accident. He was admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College for treatment.
